Don't try and compete with Paladio. We don't want Sutter Street to be turned into a shopping mall. Please do your best to keep the old town charm that we love so very much about Sutter Street

Seconded

Oh, and please, no more antique stores

If there are stores there, they will have to compete against Palladio and other strip malls for the almighty retail dollar. What Sutter Street needs to become is a destination where you can spend a few hours time after time after time. There needs to be shops, restaurants, bars, coffeeshops, dessert places and the like. Some of the businesses there already fit the profile, but there are waaay to many antique stores.

I have no animosity toward Starbucks, but would not want to see Karen's or the Black Rooster hurt by the presence of a "chain" competitor. With regard to the bank - what the heck is wrong with having a bank on Sutter Street? Two things to remember here - 1) Folsom Lake Bank is the ONLY bank on Sutter Street and 2) Folsom Lake Bank is a LOCAL (not statewide, not nationwide) but LOCAL bank. with most of its investors living in or around Folsom. The ribbon cutting for Folsom Lake Bank is tomorrow, at noon. Take a trip to Sutter Street, attend the ribbon cutting, invest in your local community by opening an account, take a stroll through one of the nicest looking buildings in town, and have lunch at one of the wonderful Sutter Street restaurants, none of which are chains! See you there!

I like the idea of a bank on Sutter St. I just think that corner is squandered by a bank. We had visions of warm evening sidewalk dining or having a microbrew behind the beautiful glass wall. I think a local bank could be a great asset, especially as the residential community expands around old town, but do they really need one of the best retail lots in the area?

its pretty much like being in downtown Sacramento at that corner now, nothing for tourists or locals to see or do there other then get some cash (or open an account). That building would have been great if Lockdown was there as originally planned.

Ditto that. It will be interesting to see if people really want to battle the traffic to do their banking, though.

Once the RR Block gets rolling full steam, and the Historic District Revitalization gets moving, I am hoping your options for dining and outdoor seating on Sutter Street will improve. The plan is that there will be more space for outdoor dining, and Lockdown will (hopefully) have their plan and finances in place to be located at the RR Block, a mere steps away from Folsom Lake Bank. If you are really looking for outdoor dining on Sutter Street, your options include Pachanga (right across the street) where there is outdoor dining on the patio on the other side of the building, Hacienda and My Brother Vinnies.

Speaking of outdoor seating, this is my bid for shutting down the whole street for walking and outdoor dining instead of tearing out the medians, sidewalks and trees.

I too think a bank on Sutter Street is a good idea. People might spend more if there is an Atm around.

Mylo, I agree. I really wish our timing and Lockdown's would have been in sync. However, wait until you see the renderings of our new buildings across the street at Historic Folsom Station (formerly known as the RXR Block). We have designed two restaurants locations on both sides of the plaza next to either side of a small amphitheater. The first restaurant location is designed like the original railroad Roundhouse that was there between 1869 and 1897. There is outside dining on the entrance side to the plaza and the bar opens up to the amphitheater on the other side. There is also at second level dining deck that looks out over the plaza. The second restaurant location is across the plaza on the other side of the Turntable with outdoor seating on the north side of the amphitheater. I will try to convert the files and send them to John to uploand if you are interested. If you have a chance to see these, I think you will agree that the restaurants on either side of the plaza will be a superior location to our existing building.

Please do! I would love to see them myself.

Thanks!

It is my hope that Sutter Street will continue to be a completely different experience than the Palladio. Unless you have followed the RXR Block Masterplanning process, you may not know that 54% of Historic Folsom Station will be public space. The parking garage occupies about 15% of the space and the new mixed use buildings will only occupy 31% of the space. The balance of the space (54% or 2.6 acres) is comprised of the plaza, amphitheater, depot and Interpretive Area. The outdoor amphitheater (250-750) people will offer a small venue for theater, dance music etc. Instead of overwhelming the District with huge events, wouldn't it be great to have dinner and enjoy some blues, jazz or theater several evenings a week. Or childrens theater or dance on the week-ends. In addition, there is plenty of room for a great Farmer's Market, art shows and the many faires that Sutter Street is known for. In fact, if we wanted to have an ice rink like downtown Sac during the winter, there is plenty of room for it.
The Interpretive Area which is already provides interactive learning can also be enhanced.

The Master Plan also calls for a display pavilion or "jewel box" for a restored 1800's era railroad engine and tender that could travel to the Turntable and back for special events.
What a great way to celebrate our history of the first commercial rail west of the Mississippi.
The opportunities are endless if this is done right.

I would love, love, love a decent Farmer's Market around here. I'm getting tired of driving to Sunrise Mall and the one under the freeway in our old hood. Seems like we could definitely support one.

I also like the idea of the amphitheater a lot. Drawing a wide range of traffic to the area is key. Sutter Street cries out to be a destination! It's a jewel of Folsom that just needs to be polished.
