hahahaha!!!! Do you guys really think Folsom is THAT small? So small that our police are incompetent!! Haahaa! This is not some small little town out in the backwoods with Billy Bob as the town sherrif!! haahaa!! You guys are funny.

I don't think anyone was saying that they are incompetent...merely stating that due to the lack of crime here their skills as detectives may not be as well developed as someone who deals with this on a daily basis.

I almost added on my previous post that I thought that the Folsom police were very good at what they do, but that what they do regularly isn't this. I didn't because I thought that people would understand that I wasn't insulting the police. Clearly I was wrong.

There was a piece on the 5pm news on KCRA.....addressing all the speculation and rumors swirling around about this tragedy. They interviewed his parents, and said that the interview will be on the 6pm news.

Last night's Channel 3 report also showed the Folsom Forum website and reminded viewers that what's on these forums is just people's opinion and speculation.

What a tragedy whatever the cause. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends. Purely devastating.

The parents were interviewed and apparently do believe that it was a choking game gone awry. Best guess given the "facts" we've heard is that he tried to tie his feet in a way that would keep him from choking after he lost consciousness.

You might not want to reinvent the wheel. NS has a community orgnization NSCO. President is Barbara Leary on Yankton. She already has a well-developed contact list, and she could probably even call a meeting although it's been a long time since we've had one. In fact, our last community party was at Big Foot Park sad.gif. I'll tell her to read this thread and see if she wants to respond.

Okay, Tessie, here's my reply. There is a Neighborhood watch leader (Lisa Mort) on Hopfield who attends the City police meetings regularly and has been doing so for several years. I don't know if she's been able to have any neighborhood meetings but I will e-mail her. I also have sent out a couple of e-mails a year to see if anyone is interested in resurrecting an NSCO event and/or meetings and have had a very very limited response (one or two at best) though folks have shown a lot of support on some of the development issues. I am willing to try to put together some kind of neighborhood meeting if others are interested but will not have any time until after Easter break. Once the activity surrounding this terrible situation has settled down, I hope folks will still be interested.

I would like to extend my condolences to the family; I know many have done a lot to try to help them through this.

I hope that the wild speculation and hysteria amoung some in the community will fade away and that everyone will take the opportunity to spend more time with their kids and help them through the grief process.
Barbara Leary

A VETERAN Whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount "up to and including their life". That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -Author unknown-

I see no reason for humor in this topic.

And with regards to the choking game, I still don't understand why killing yourself (or getting close) is entertaining.

Not convinced- how do they explain his legs tied up behind his legs-- So far they dont- this is not a choking game and he was NOT alone...

Indeed, tied legs would give to the idea that someone tried hiding the body by taking the legs out of sight.

I both agree, yet disagree. There's a saying I heard in US history a few days ago. "It is not the fault of the bad men, but the faults of the innocent who stood by and did nothing." [I refer mostly to the last part of the quote. I'm not saying anyone's bad.] Yes, a lot of us on this forum are giving condolences and whatnot, but let me at least say and explain this.

Not all of us knew A' well. [People have used his name, and his name is in the media anyways, but I'll stick to just A...] But his story has touched us in one way or another. Inspired fear, bubbled up curiousity, creates anxiety, anger... Etc.
People ARE doing a lot for him and his family as is, I'm sure. Few of the people here actually know him personally, so the least we can do is give him our prayers, and hope for the best from here on.
I may be misinterpreting, but the way you say we should all stop "being sad" makes it seem like you're trivializing the emotions a bit. Let sad people be sad, let the worried worry, and let the empathetic/sympathetic feel for him and his family. People can't help but wallow in their emotions in this sorta thing.

State your opinion if you want, that's fine. But tact and consideration are a plus too. Your post makes it sound like it was -wrong- of people to give out their prayers and condolences and hope-for-the-better posts.

And y'know what? I might've TOTALLY misconcieved your post because it's text, for one, with no voice behind it, or I might be a little close minded for all I know because I'm one of those sad people. If I am, then I'm sorry.

Yes, it is just text and unfortunately, my tone cannot be emitted through it...However, I didn't mean to not be so sad about the situation in general, but I think some on this forum, not all, tend to bathe in the tragedy instead of being productive. I noticed, that some on this forum seemed to act upon fear. A neighborhood watch would have not stopped this behavior. Children, especially teens will go and find a place where adults aren't there....However, educating teens on this kind of death, may prevent others. A neighborhood watch is good for other situations, but I think this kind of tragedy unfortunately would have happened with our without a watch... After all, love and prayer are nothing, without actions....Turn the mourning into actions because it is the family that is truly suffering and not us, the observers of the tragedy....I volunteer a lot in the community and I always hear about people who say want to help, but when it comes down to it they seldom do....

folsom500 You are AMAZING!!!! dont you think the family has been talking to the police about this???? Obviously they have and they are not telling us what ALL of the evidence is??? GIVE IT UP!!! why torture the family........Do you have pure oxygyn in your home and have a bunker to? Why do you have to make this more than a tragic accident?????
