We are voting the city council out - but how do we mitigate the damages in the meantime -
you must be a Miklos favorite who he smiles instead of glares at - speaking an opinion to those people up there is impossible - they are condisending and just don't listen
Speaking to old timers of Folsom - this is a continual problem - there must be something in the chair that creates this problem??
We have two seats coming up and the community at large needs to be better informed and not so trusting
In the meantime people like Bob Fish and Val Doss and others are working to protect the citizens ...and I for one support them

I haven't attended a City Council member in quite a few years, and am not friendly/friends with any of the members.

Your assumptions are wrong and apparently based on the fact that if someone does NOT support Fish/Doss and posse, they have to be in bed with the council. Shame on you.

As for your comment about oldtimers...........does that mean you'll move out of Folsom before you become one?

Terry
For your own edifucation u should attend the council meetings - it would be an awaking for you
Your comment is incorrect about fish et al - my comment relates that we need people like that and Save the Park to stand up and be aware of what is happening and bring it to the peoples attention
we should not be bumpkins who go along with the program just cause they say so
yes the council does things people like but for the most part they are not
ask the Sibley street people who will soon have a race track again
I do feel sorry for them
and I still live in Folsom and also work in Folsom
the old timers tell of this continued problem w/city council and how they fail to listen to the citizens and do just what they want
so attend those meetings
that will make u more informed

Waterbaby - yes citizens should have a voice and bring their issues to the table. That is part of a Democratic society. Now that doesn't mean that your opinion is shared by the majority of the citizens, but you have the right to express it. Forming large groups on certain matters is definitely a way to get more influence and supporters.

I elect council members to make the final decision on local matters. That Just because you express a view to the council does not mean they need to agree with it. I've heard you say before that they are Not listening - well that is often the attitude of people who express views that don't get adopted. People can listen to your opnions but choose to make a different decision.

I have no ties to the council and don't know any of them personally. I generally agree with many of the decisions that they have made, and understand and respect their decisions that I am opposed to. Regarding the next council election - I'll wait until I see the canidates before I make a decision...

You are so right Billsfan!!! I salute you!!!! I was at odds with the cc for years because they seemed to put building everything ahead of building a library. It has taken 11 years and in that time many things have gone in that I now admire. YOU have the right attitude!!!! Thank you!

First let me tell you all how much I've enjoyed reading the comments about our great town.

I arrived in Folsom during the construction of the dam, so I feel that I am qualified to speak out on this subject.

EDF, Fish, the "pistol packing mamma" Meyers et al have done a great job in trying to stop growth south of 50.

Congratulations--you have just set the city up to take a substantial loss in sales tax revenues.

According to city figures, the automobile dealers account for over 35% of the sales tax generated here. This is quite a bit of money when you see the city is expecting 20 mil this year.

Do you know the two largest automobile dealers, the Ford-Toyota and Chevrolet Dealers have both purchased land to move their dealerships to from Aerojet. So goodby to several million dollars of sales tax to the city as Aerojet is in the County, and with your stupid initative you have effectively screwed the city pretty good.

I suggest the first light rail trip out of Folsom to have these malcontents aboard, they are not needed here!!! banghead.gif banghead.gif [B][B][I][U][QUOTE][code=auto:0][SQL][HTML]

Let them go
first our cc would have to learn how to budget money
second
the car dealerships will be on contamentated land
let them have it
look at the history of that land before you want it so much

Latest development in the battle between City Council's ballot initiative and the initiative signed by 4,400 residents:

In this David and Goliath competition, Goliath has thrown the first punch. We've been notified that a lawsuit has been filed seeking to invalidate the residents' initiative.

Once we actually receive and read the lawsuit, I'll provide more info. But it sure is interesting that Bob Holderness can organize a handful of residents with the bucks to hire a very expensive and high-profile attorney to file this lawsuit against us little guys.

Reminds me of how the City Council hired the attorney who literally wrote the book on CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act) to write an opinion saying the City Council initiative doesn't have to comply with CEQA. Our tax dollars at work-- against us.

Our opponents remind me of that Hallmark commercial: they care enough to hire the very best.

Stay tuned for more info on who these people are who have taken it upon themselves to try to knock our initiative off the ballot. I' expect that the 4,400 people who signed the initiative will be really mad... rolleyes.gif

Val and Bob - let me know what I can do to help - this has to stop - we as the citizens of Folsom have the right to vote on issues - and that right is repeatedly taken away from us -

Remember as voters we can vote and that means

1-don't vote for an encumbant
2-make your cc responsible to u the citizen
3-vote against the initiative put out by the city
4-attend council meetings and make your voice heard
5-stop the cc from letting meetings go past the 10:30 p.m. hour when in all reasonablness the issues can be rescheduled

Waterbaby and others who want to help:

Call me at 631-1662 daytime or 983-9367 eves & weekends and I'll tell you exactly how you can help. A top priority right now is money. The fundraising we had hoped to do for printing and postage of mailers will now be needed for a legal defense fund. Free Measure T!

Update on lawsuit: I was served with the papers and what is most startling is that they were able to get a court date of this coming Friday!

Talk about dirty pool. A grass-roots organization has to cough up the money to hire an attorney to defend the initiative on just two days notice. (Our reply documents must be filed with the court on Thursday).

The four individuals who are suing are John Kemp, Christina Polley, Richard Gray and Daniel McNeil. Their attorneys are (1) Bell, McAndrews & Hiltachk and (2) --surprise,surprise--Holderness Law Firm.

They basically argue that we should have included in the language of our initiative the ENTIRE part of the County General Plan that we mention. (It runs about 24 pages). That's what non-lawyers call a technicality, or better yet, a bogus technicality.

If every person who signed the initiative sent in $2.00 toward defending this lawsuit and for campaign costs, we'd have $8,800. Not enough, but could at least get us through this week's legal proceedings. Go to our website to see where to send checks.

This is an outrage.

VAL - provide the address and the ck is on the way

And John - your censorship is duly noted - but it has been one sided - which is unfortunate - I get slammed by Candy Apple for stating the information from a cc meeting and Linda Holderness corrects her -....... one thing that I have noticed about the journalism is that i was of the understanding that it was to be unbaised and informational

The citizens of Folsom need to know about things like this lawsuit - so that they can make their own decisions - unfortunately the information is concealed in different forms and failed to be permited in avenues that should be available - so please continue to keep this access and the opinions open...

Bet you will be relieved - I'm taking a well deserved vacation.....

Check out today's Folsom Telegraph for Tom Aceituno's letter. Even this former City Council Member and slow-growth advocate is going on record to NOT support the "Sensible Growth" initiative.

Check out his arguments against this initiative.
