laugh.gif Dan, I swear you must be working for Apple, getting kick backs, or you're new to computing.... sure Macs are good, but the notes about PC's being far less worthy are way off base. (seriously dude, they do not crash or have as many probs as you say you've experienced and assume others have experienced too)

These days, now that Apple has decided to adopt the same chipset that PC makers have been using for years, the hardware between Mac and PC is nearly (if not completely) identical

the only differences are the operating systems - so in a sense, thats what you're really paying for - well, besides some cool plastic logo casing too

so it's Mac OS vs WinXP, Vista, ....and a multitude of Linux OS varieties

Mac really ain't all that, but their marketing sure is (always has been) and thats what people are really buying into - the hype

that said, dude I just got an iPhone!
(pretty neat device! with lots of cool hype that seems to actually work so far)

oh and hey if you wanna get me a mac laptop I'd be more then willing to convert biggrin.gif

Dave I'm way too busy to work for Apple, and not lucky enough to get kickbacks but maybe I should make a copy of this forum and start asking for some kickbacks.

Honestly I just totally dig the difference between my Mac compared to my past PC's. I will say that I never had an expensive PC, just your standard store bought PC ranging from $1,000 -$1,800. I had usually a crash once every other week, and a major problem once every 6 months. I went through 5 computers in 10 years because of problems with my PC's not to mention the many other computers we upgraded at my business because of problems and crashes. I just went to my friend Kim's house and she keeps getting syntecs (sp?) errors on her 1 yr old Dell? My brother has had few problems with his PC as well as my Uncle but either they are lucky, or I'm unlucky. I think very highly about Mac's operating system and the fact that it's all inclusive, I don't have to go out and buy 30 programs for a PC to be able to do what my Mac does from buying just iLife & iWork for a total of $200.
Sorry can't help you with your laptop request, try asking santa biggrin.gif

Good debate. I guess the reason people take offense to macs is this scenario, say you have a bunch of new auto drivers, teens. They really don't need a fancy car, just something that works, doesn't have to be the latest and greatest. Then say an auto maker comes out with a bunch of ads that state if you drive these simple cars, they will EXPLODE, you must buy ours since they are SO PERFECT. The reason I dislike Apple's marketing is the same as why so many people hated AOL. But this is capitalism.

I wish people would get over the idea that Mac users are buying into some sort of "cool" factor. I'm very close to being a little old lady here.

Most little old ladies (this one included) don't give a fig about "cool." I'm into practicality in a big way (and always have been).

A lot of Mac users I know are a lot like me. Older. Retired, even. And using Macs. They sure don't care about being "cool" either.

If I could tolerate using a PC, I would. I can't, so I won't. I've tried. I'm paying for functionality. Mac does it for me. And a lot of other people I know. Mature, sensible people. Mac users.

If you want to continue to use PC's, it's no big deal to me. But if you haven't tried a new Mac in the last couple of years, then don't assume you know what they're like and please don't put other people down for using one and liking it.

Dan is trying to open your mind to a different way, a way he considers to be a better way. I came here to back him up on that effort. All he was asking is that you take a look at a modern Mac. If you are too closed minded to accept his suggestion, then that is your potential loss.
