The wife and I had lunch there today. I must admit that the food, service and ambience are very well balanced. Very refreshing in this fast foodie, chain environment we find ourselves burdened with. The wife had the Kobe burger and she loved it !! I had the risotto with bay shrimp, I defy anyone to find a more toothsome and filling example anywhere. Just for your information.. the chef-owner, is a Michelin reccommended chef. Having spent some time at Jacks in San francisco, he was awarded this valued reference. Currently, there no, Michelin awarded restaurants in Sacramento OR San Francisco... Those high honors are found in the wine country up in St.Helena and Yountville.

Not quite correct. There are several Michelin 1 star restaurants in San Francisco and possibly a 2 star. French Laundry has 3 stars and Cyrus in Healdsburg has 2.

Kobe Burger: $11.95.
The actual food cost is approximately $3.00.

well then, that's not much of a mark-up, when you consider they have to pay for triple net rent, staff wages, insurance, utilities, and actually make a little profit some day.

I went to Folsom Bistro last Monday with my sister, her husband and son and my kids. I don't ever plan on going back.

When we arrived there were two other people in the place. It took us over an hour to get all of our food. Nothing arrived for forty minutes and when it arrived it was my nephew's soup and the kid's entrees. Ten minutes later my sister and I got the appetizer we were splitting. Ten minutes after that my bro-in-law asked for his salad, which came quickly. Ten minutes after that came the rest of the entrees. Our waters were empty often and the waitress never came over to check on us without us having to flag her down for water or something. When my bro-in-law asked for his salad, she said, "Oh, you wanted it with your soup." and when he said, "True, but it's been 45 minutes and I'm hungry and would just like some food, please." she just walked away. Not once did she apologize or seem at all concerned about the amount of time it was taking.

I want to note that my kids were fine, they weren't acting up or anything, but the amount of time was simply unacceptable for even a table full of adults. While we were there three other diners came in so they weren't busy.

The chef did ask how our lunch was. I told him the food was very good but the service was not, it was way too slow. He responded that the duck confit takes a while. I understood that, I told him, but two entrees came out before it and it took twenty minutes for the rest of the entrees to come out. He seemed surprised, but really not at all concerned.

The food was good. The duck confit was tasty, but I do prefer the confit at Bidwell St. Bistro. The lobster bisque was spectacular! The Kobe beef burgers we had were good, but were quite rare when we ordered medium. Granted, I'd rather have them on the underdone side than overdone, but it wasn't what we ordered.

Again, I'm not going back.

Given your experience, I can understand...
I went in December and got a different experience - we got lots of timely attention and great service. Hopefully what you received has not become a common situation. Fortunately you have other options.

Why why why is good service so difficult for some places to get right? Especially when they're not very busy. Why? Nothing irritates me more than going somewhere, paying good money, and getting lousy service. No, it's not the end of the world, but dammit, don't they know that when people have a bad dining experience, they tend to tell everyone?? When a place is not too busy, you should get 5-star, All-Star service. Just baffles me.
I have opinions, you have opinions. We'll just call it even...is that OK ??

yes, we have never had anything but great service. it's too bad the chef didn't pay more attention to your not getting your entrees at the same time. that seems to be to be basic. who wants to eat at different times? he should have apologized to you.

I'm with you on that. Great service can make up for not great food, but it doesn't work the other was around. Our food was quite good, it was the service that makes it a no-go again.

Right. And you can do something about it. A few weeks ago, Mrs. ChipShot and I had real bad service at BJ's (which is rare...at least for us), and I did complain. A guy named 'Chris' comped our total dinner and drinks bill and gave us a $25 Gift Card to use next time. I thought that was overly fair, but he insisted. I don't typically like to complain, but the bad service was over-the-top bad. No matter where you are, if the service is bad, speak up then and there. I think they appreciate it more than you think.

We did the same thing at Olive Garden a couple months ago. The service was horrendous, so I decided not to sit back and whine, and I talked to the mgr. She gave us $25 to use for that meal or later.

Bummer thing is that cw did talk to someone and it didn't seem to help.
