A buddy here at work has a Givi case on his FZ1 and does the same thing. I think it's a bigger one though, maybe this one. On the side it says Mono-key System so I've been teasing him about his Monkey System.

Does your scooter have a helmet lock, where you can lock in the strap? Probably in the form of a hook at the edge under the seat for example, so the D-ring is under lock and key but the helmet itself is hanging out.

As for jacket, I've seen people string a cable lock through the sleeve when locking up the rest of the bike, but it always looks to me like less trouble to just wear the thing.

Most of the newer scooters have underseat storage.

On that note I always leave my jacket and helmet sitting on the bike/scooter and have never had any trouble.

Most scooter and m/c shops do not let you test ride... A&S from what I know does a lot of business, a lot more than most shops so they can offer test rides. Remember once a bike is test ridden they can no longer sell it as new.

A&S had a few bikes for people to try out, but I guess my ignorance worked out for me! As a single gal looking at scooters and far from real knowledgeable they didn't take advantage of me. That says a lot about their integrity. I think they've been around for thirty years so they've got the customer service thing down!

Is it best to buy accessories through a walk-in store or online? I think someone recommended a full helmet...what kind of jacket? They have mesh, textile, and leather. Leather seems so hot for the summer, spring, and fall months. Being a newbie out of the road (soon) I feel it's important to be covered with protective gear. I know a helmet isn't optional!!! I want good stuff, but I don't want to pay too much right now if I can help it. I'm teaching summer school in Rancho so that's paying for my scooter!

I use my mesh jacket in spring, summer and fall. I have a waterproof jacket for the winter and riding in the rain. I have a full face helmet and a MX style helmet. For now I'd get a mesh jacket and a full face helmet. If you want to ride in colder weather you can worry about that later. Most people don't like riding in the cold so getting everything at once might be a waste of money.

Here is my new ride. I pick it up tomorrow. I ended up spending about $1000 more for the Vespa. lmaosmiley.gif

The salesman didn't pressure me at all. I liked the color!!! Also the majority of the Vespa scooter is metal and the majority of the Fly is plastic. I think the Vespa is a little bit safer in a crash.

yep
I found a great jacket today...an all-in-one for $220. I haven't found a helmet I like and that is most important! Is there a particular brand that is better. Some helmets can be fairly expensive, but it looks like the lighter weight helmets are costly, while the heavier ones are cheaper. If I get an cheaper one it can always be a loaner helmet provided it fits. Do you guys recommend getting a "cool max" liner for sweat purposes? They're cheap compared to some of the other things I bought today. rolleyes.gif

Andrea - What do you do to prevent "helmet head?" I plan to have a hairbrush, hairspray, and possibly a straightener in my classroom for touch ups in the morning.

Not much you can do... I have Betty Bangs, and when it is hot, my hair can get really CRAZY.

Just try to put the helmet on with your hair not sticking any weird way... not as easy as it sounds. ESPECIALLY if it is windy at all. sad.gif

Get a helmet that at a minimum has a removable, washable liner. You will thank me later for this.

You should be able to get a mesh jacket for less than a hundred bucks. Try here...

Don't let the name fool you, the business started out selling secondhand leathers but they now sell only new stuff. Lots of cheap closeouts, and their prices even on current stuff are pretty good.

I'm hooked. Now I wish it could go faster...once licensed I see myself making short trips on the highway. How much and how complicated to make the 150cc a 190cc?
