I don't own any pure shotguns. My two shotguns are Savage over-under combo guns.
The baby is the 22 LR over a 410
The daddy is a 30-30 over a 12 gauge

30-30 - one of my Thompson Center Contenders (a pistol) has a 12" barrel chambered for 30 - 30. Yes, it's a cannon!

Shotguns are by far the most fun to shoot, IMO. Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays are all tons of fun. Don't get me wrong, paper target marksmanship is a great challenge, but after a while it starts to be less fun to me.

I do want to try it out.... I have to admit, I've shot all kinds of guns, rifles and even machine guns - uzi's, m-16's, and a .50 cal M2. Shot all sizes from .22 thru .45acp, and 44 mag and even a .50 cal revolver -which was the most insane crazy gun I've ever fired from - daaaayang that thing is mega powerful!

..but I've never ever fired from a shotgun before.... I really gotta try that out sometime

is it costly for the ammo and targets? I see that Cordova and Sacto shooting centers offer it, do you go there or anywhere else?

That's why I shoot more cans than paper targets.

When the can gets kicked up in the air, it's a kill, on a target, it's just another hole in the paper.

Plus occasionally you get to witness freak occurences. Last time out, after one can was knocked over, the next time it got hit, it stood it back up.
I would rather be Backpacking

Shotgun ammo for recreational shooting isn't particularly expensive, at least compared to centerfire rifle or pistol ammo. Figure on about $5 per 25 shells. I've shot a fair amount of trap and skeet at the Cordova Shooting Center and have really enjoyed it. I, too, like to shoot a lot so it can start to get expensive when you factor in paying for the clays. I think they're about .25 each. When I go, I generally shoot at 100 - 200 targets. They have their target pricing available on their website.

Wow. My dad got me a single-shot 410 when I was just a kid. Wonder whatever happened to that...would be nice to have that in the closet or under the bed as back-up...

I've had Taurus handguns before, they're good utility firearms. My favorite though is my S&W .38 special revolver (I prefer revolvers over pistols, but that's just a personal preference).

And yes, Wild Sports' customer service has drastically improved over the years.

Don't get me wrong. I'd like to have a Glock 19. But I'd recommend trying comparable models first.

Wow...and from a Sig guy? Can I quote you on that? I guess I already did tongue.gif

Looks like I missed a few days (and several new pages of new stuff)...I wanted to follow up on the CTC lasers. I have one installed on my G19 and love it. If the gun is intended for HD, then I would highly recommend that you invest in a laser (CTC or Lasermax or other)....for me, if some BG is kicking in the front door I don't want to have to worry about trying to line up my shot with one hand while I'm rubbing sleep out of my eyes with the other while simultaneously crapping my pants and knocking everything off the bedside table...but that's just me. Your mileage may vary. A laser gives you almost immediate target acquisition. I have the CTC paired with a Streamlight TLR-1 L.E.D. light (that way i can see what I'm shooting at, and can use the temporary "on" feature to temporarily blind or disorient the BG and buy myself a split second before deciding I need to shoot the BG or if it's just my neighbor causing a bunch of mayhem in the middle of the night). There are drawbacks, as the CTC does wrap around the grip adding some width, but it looks worse that it feels. But some people just don't care for 'em.

P.S. - if you must know...No, I do not have enough spare magazines...and yes, they are all loaded.

I usually get my supplies at Wild Sports or www.topgunsupply.com.

I usually get my (CCI Blazer range) ammo at Wild Sports (w/ the coupon in the Bee).

I don't have a set place for getting HD ammo (ie - Federal hollow points). I'm opportunistic there.

+1 on CCI at Wild Sports, it's a good deal for some decently clean(ish) firing ammo. For practice I prefer to pick up the 100pack of WWB at Wal-Mart for like $18 chucks. I have also ordered in bulk (1,000 round minimums) from ammoman.com and have had good success with Wolf...everyone loves to dis on Wolf, but it's decent and I've never had a FTF, FTE, or stovepipe, etc...but that's probably because I choose to shoot a Glock and they'll eat anything.

I've also ordered a small stockpile of HD ammo from ammunitiontogo.com. Excellent ammo prices, decent shipping pricing, but their selection can vary wildly from month to month. For an example of pricing, I just picked up 50-round boxes of Federal HST for $19.95, which is less than half of what you'd expect to pay in a store.

But AB2062 may put an end to internet ammo sales, which would be completely retarded since I highly doubt that gangbangers are ordering bulk ammo on-line for their drive-bys, but i could be wrong. http://www.leginfo.c...ed_sen_v95.html

"This bill would require that commencing July 1, 2009, unless specifically excluded, no person shall sell or transfer more than 50 rounds of handgun ammunition in any month unless he or she is registered as a handgun ammunition vendor."
The bill would further provide that handgun ammunition may only be purchased in a face-to-face transaction, which is being interpreted to exclude internet sales. I guess this should be no surprise that our legislators are busy with this crap when they could be doing something less productive like, say, approving the State Budget. /end rant.
