I've been there once, and I got a free 1/2 a dog.

My friend and I had ordered a dog each and a beer each. We finished our dogs and were close to finishing our beers, when the chef brought a free dog for us to share, we were sitting at the counter. He said something about making the wrong dog for an order, so he gave it to us. Well, we had to stay and order another beer each to wash it down.

I look forward to going there again.
I would rather be Backpacking

My wife and I visited yesterday for lunch. She had the "Barbie Dog" and I went with the Spicy Polish. She liked hers, even the BBQ sauce. I was surprised she even ordered it since BBQ sauce is not her favorite thing.

Mine was very good. Steamed bun was steamed right, lots of wide grilled onions piled high. The polish seemed a tad overdone (and wrinkly) . Tasted great though.

We shared some fries, which were decent. Nothing special. Kind of like Ore Ida crinkle cuts.

Overall, I liked it, and will visit again. However I thought the pricing was a tad high for dogs. On the other hand, I'm all for businesses charting enough to stay in operation.

A week or two after they opened I went in for a corn dog to go. Turned out, they order the "wrong type" of corndog (or something) and they weren't happy with them, so they gave me 2 extras for free. I'm sure most people would appreciate the extra grub, but I thought it was funny... "Have a few more bad corndogs on us!" I can barely eat an entire corndog alone, let alone 3, especially if they are bad. lol

I do like the place a lot though. We probably go once or twice a month for a quick bite to eat. They still have a bit of a consistency problem foodwise though. We never seem to get the same dog twice, even if we order the same thing.

My husband and I were there on Sunday. I had my favorite, the Roasted Garlic and Smoked Mozzarella Chicken Sausage, and as always it was really good. I was happy to see a steady line of customers while we were there.

Was it "bad" or just not up to their standards?

Went today and brought along a few coworkers. One had not enjoyed a hot dog in several months and was dying for a one. He liked UD.

I had the Barbie which was really good however this dog needs to be renamed. I got razzed about ordering the Barbie. If they dont change the name, maybe add shrimp to the recipe...Mmmm Shrimp on the Barbie Dog.

The first time we went there they gave me and my friends two free pitchers of beers, needless to say that made us friend of theirs for life biggrin.gif

Heading there tomorrow for lunch - looking forward to it.

OK, maybe not "bad" but it was the wrong type. I just found it amusing that since they couldn't give me what they wanted to, they gave me MORE of what they didn't want to.

yes, but their plan seems to be working. people get free beer and hot dogs and they're signed on for good. I agree with Neal's group, the salads aren't great, but the hot dogs are excellent if the buns aren't over-steamed. Long live Urban Dog.

sigh... do you ever have anything good to say about any business?

Contrary to popular belief, hot dogs are not made from left-over meat laying around on the floors of meat-packing houses. Whether it is pork or beef that is stuffed into a hot dog, the meat trimmings are carefully selected just like the meat you buy in your grocer's coolers.

Most recipes for hot dogs combine together a tasty blend of favorite meats (pork, beef, chicken, or turkey), meat fat, a cereal filler which could be either bread crumbs, flour, or oatmeal, a little bit of egg white, and a mouth-watering array of herbs and seasonings including garlic, pepper, ground mustard, nutmeg, salt, and onion.

Once these ingredients are grinded together, the stuffing is squeezed into sausage casings. Many of the hot dogs sold in stores are enclosed in synthetic cellulose casings, but most home-made hot dogs are made out of natural animal intestines.

exactly. here it is from the Vienna Beef website. This is why they taste so good!! Good info at that site......

"At Vienna® Beef, we're extremely proud of the quality of our products. The meat used in our beef products is 100% domestic beef and beef trimmings from a carefully selected group of suppliers. We also grind and mix all of our own ingredients and use real hickory wood for that signature Vienna look and taste. "

Shhhhh! Urban Dog has a "secret menu"... well kinda. Not like the In-n-Out secret menu but the Meat Sandwich is available but not listed yet. After I ordered my dawg, then recalled the owner saying they would have the meat sandwich soon.

So order one up and shhh its a secret.
