Well said!

I've sorta done a study on this theory for a while. Port happens to be one of my favorite types of wines, the pairing with deserts can be fantastic. I've tried all kinds of ports from all over the world, and good buddy of mine who's a serious wine collector has even shared a few bottles of port in the triple digit price range, some bottles were older then I am... I've even gone out of my way when traveling on business to try local expensive port wines but you know what I found after all these years and all those ports?.... the best one I've ever had wasn't over $100, instead, it is a superb tawny that believe or not... costs $2.99! (and its made locally)

I look forward to your review, but I won't be hanging on the edge of my seat, I'll be too busy watching Big Brother with the wife to be hanging on any edge.

I get what CW68 means. A lot of winemakers were going for "more powerful" wines instead of balance and finesse.

Davburr, Deaver in Plymouth has a good port. I think it's about $20.

blah blah blah

But you don't understand nose when referring to wine? Hmm.

Currently high alcohol = high points = high popularity. Not only do I not like these, they aren't going to last. Age them a bit and all the high alcohol wines will taste alike. Age them longer and they are all going to fall apart. The alcohol will still be there backed up by not much.

Child, please, quit with the snobbery.

I've had that one before, and you're right it is pretty good. Another fav local winery that made one of my favorite ports was Charles Mitchel now Conti Estates, they made a 98 port that was one of my all time favs, $20 a bottle, not bad

I think we're being played, a real wine aficionado should understand nose. I also agree with you about the "fad" wine and high alcohol. A really good wine should be nice and mellow and have a wonderful aroma and taste - not punch you in the nose

Dave, have you had the port at Terra D'oro (formerly MonteVina)? I love that.

Don't tell me what happens on Big Brother or Hell's Kitchen as I'll be DVR'ing both!

Change in plans - Granito's doesn't serve dinner on Tuesday nights (what????) So I'm not sure where we are headed now.

My review would have been really fair and balanced.

I was told by a very credible source that Deavers Ports are made by another winery.

Todays trivia question is what winery makes them?

IMO. they made the best port a few years ago and their Port today is rather good too!

I've barrel tasted ports at Deaver. It sure looked like they were making them there.

The owner of another winery claimed they made their port. Maybe, this winery sells the barrells to Deaver and Deaver bottles them?

Then again maybe you had too many tastings and just thought it was the barrel but it was really the dump bucket? biggrin.gif

One of the questions I generally ask at the winery when winetasting is, Are the grapes estate grown? If I like the wines I want to know the name of grower, in case they have a winery to go and taste their wines.

Many of the wineries in Amador/El Dorado County buy/sell or trade grapes to make wines.
