You interpret the bible quote the way you want to and I will interpret it my way. From what I read in the quote that was one of the underlying meanings. Since some of you are calling a Lingerie shop a smut shop so I pointed that out. I am arguing the same points.

The back room is going to be completely "X-rated".
They would have to bring their X-rated items to the front of the store to check out so anyone out front would see their stuff if they wanted to or not.
---------
My wife and I are against the X-rated store on Sutter Street.
If it was just lingerie and toys it might be different, but with X-rated videos and leather and thongs and whips and all it might be a bit more that Folsom needs, at least down in Sutter Street.
That is exactly what I'm objecting to! Not underwear or funny "toys."!!
Another thing that did come up at the meeting was that there could not be a church within 500 or 1,000 feet of this shop. Someone said that there was in fact one church and possibly two within the 500 or 1,000 foot distance.
Thank you for the update, since I have classes on Tuesday. What does the church comment mean? I don't understand.

However, in our Bible, Romans chapter 13, verses 11-14 says:
"And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over, the day is almost here. So, let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dessention and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature."
Please forgive me if I'm misreading your post, but is the implication here that the use of sex toys by married couples constitutes "sexual immorality and debauchery"? It seems to me that there is much here that is open to interpretation, and I'm just trying to gain an understanding of what your interpretation is.
By the way, while I don't personally see a problem with the shop going in, I agree wholeheartedly with your recommendations of actions people who are opposed to this type of store could take. Certainly, anybody with a strong opinion one way or the other would do well to actually DO something about it rather than just complaining about the outcome.

Definitions of head shop on the Web:
a shop specializing in articles of interest to drug users; "he bought some roach clips and hashish pipes at the head shop"

Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification. Around here, it seems that these are generally referred to as "smoke shops". You know, places where you can get all your "tobacco smoking" accessories - such as bongs, pipes, herbal cleansers, etc.. I'm actually quite amazed that businesses so clearly selling drug paraphanelia are operating legally.

Quote:
On the lingerie/sex store subject, the ordinance does not mention
churches or proximity to churches - so that would not matter. For the record,
the Scientologists are located on the backside of the building, facing the
parking lot. The only other religious location that I am aware of that is
located close by is the Christian Science Reading Room, next to
Yeagers, and across from the Chamber. The only residences located on that part of
Sutter Street (to my knowledge) are accessed from the alley behind the Folsom
Hotel, so they would be across the street and I don't know if they are
actually upstairs from the shops or if they are separate buildings.
Again, there is no prohibition in the ordinance on proximity to residences.

Not a slippery slope - re-categorizing. You folks are saying this is just like underwear at Mervyn's. I'm saying that it's more akin to an adult bookstore, and with the more recent information from the council meeting, it sounds like it actually IS an adult bookstore. I want to know where you folks draw the line for what should be in downtown Folsom.

Thats not what I was referring to when I said slippery slope. I was referring to "While we're at it, how about a Head shop, a strip club, and an adult bookstore". It was just a little side comment (joke).

I got it, and while I was initially being facetious, I did want people to realize that they're approving one type of establishment which I find to be very similar to others that they wouldn't approve there.
