I hope the voters are paying attention

No surprise that the majority of council members have been on this coucil for so many years. The developers know whom to support and why. Any wonder Starsky wants Ernie out? Ernie cannot be bought.

Give me term limits. Vote for Sheldon and Gaylord!

I finally received a reply from Peter Piccardo of code enforcement.

Quote:

Mr. May, Thank you for the email and sorry for the delayed response. Things are a little busy here in Code Enforcement these days. Given our current demand and staffing level in Code Enforcement our operation has had to focus on Public Health and Safety code issues to include property maintenance, blight, substandard housing and junk cars to name a few. I hope to resume to our normal level of service soon.

I got the EXACT same response this morning as well. I am sure he has been shut down by higher ups -
Who Does he actually work for ? City Manager ?

Contrast the above email from Pete with this one of October 3- and you will see the change-

Now if he actually HAD contacted the sign owner- then it Starsky's action to follow the LAW especially after being notified by CODE...

BTW my last several emails to Pete also CC'd Starsky and Howell...

Since Starsky is thumbing his nose at the LAW even after being notified - he certainly does not deserve to be elected... I sense a letter to the Folsom Telegraph in the making.. Anyone else want to do the same ?

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

I contacted Pete for another reason and received a pretty immediate response (email was really late in the afternoon and response was received first thing the next morning). So there seems to only be feet-dragging on the sign issue? Maybe?

As to my previous question, it sounds like there's a lot of things out there where you can learn about the candidates, but that doesn't really answer my root question because few people know about these and few people receive any info from these gatherings or even discussions here on the forum. So while there are ways to meet the candidates and learn about them and the issues in the city, the people of Folsom don't really proactively go looking for it and just vote the incumbents because they don't know any better. Hell, I try to pay attention and didn't even know about those events (granted I've been in a sleep deprived stupor lately).

So I still pose the question... how do we spread the word so people stop voting so blindly? I know it's a problem with people not caring enough. But maybe they would if they were slapped in the face with the info somehow. If it weren't for political ads on TV, most people wouldn't have a clue about anything they vote for. It needs to be shoved in their faces.

These comments do not have to do with signs in Folsom, but.

I was watching the Nationwide races on ESPN today and Starsky had
at least three 30 second campaign commercials on as follows: at 4:57PM, 5:23PM and 6:08PM.

These must have cost him a pretty penny.

I wonder if he will have them on ESPN tomorrow when the NASCAR races are on?

I sent the following message to Pete and cc'ed to Evert Palmer (city manager)
and Kerri Howell (Mayor).

Quote:
Pete, it doesn't look to me like anything is going to get done about Starsky's illegal signs. I think I am going to drive around
Folsom and take photos of all of them and bring them as a presentation to the next city council meeting.

To you people on myfolsom.com

Please let me know where the illegal signs are and I will
try to get photos of them and go to the next city council
meeting with them. If you can get a photo and location of
some of them please forward them on to me. I think that
the next city council meeting is on the 23rd of October.
Let's all show up and find out what is going on here!!!!

Thanks.

Cal

When you do that be sure to look Starsky right in the eyes (if he shows up) and ask him why he thinks he is above the law and why is he using the Chamber to promote him when that's a direct conflict of interest because he helps secure their $1 per year rent every year.

Starsky represents everything wrong with good ol' boy club politics! He's got to go! Enough's enough!

Thanks Cal, good job. My daughter wants to attend the candidates forum to ask him why he's violating the rules. (OK, she wasn't as polite about it.)

PS - we want to spread the word outside of MyFolsom? Use social media to link to this thread, or any other thread you think others should read. I just linked my FB account to this thread in an attempt to widen the circle of knowledge...

Can someone direct me to the campaign disclosure sites for the current candidates ? I think there is some information there that can be useful.

Cal - support you 100%- I have thought of doing that but it is too late in the evening for me as I am caretaking Farley and can't get out.

I will get you some pics as well as send you the full texts of the emails between CODE and me.

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

I sent an email to Mayor Howell regarding Starsky's illegal signs. Thirty minutes later I received a call from Mayor Howell. She explained to me that code enforcement has been notified but they are overwhelmed and that's where it sits. She suggested that I call Starsky himself and tell him he needs to take down the signs. I told her this is ridiculous; the simple fact that the current Mayor of Folsom would stand by and let this happen is appalling and will come back to haunt her in 2014. I did call Starsky and have yet to receive a reply.

The simple fact is even if Starsky takes his illegal signs down; the developers on the 50 side of Folsom have basically banned me from placing any signs on their property. This system is set up to keep the career council members in and the challengers out.

Also, a quick update from the League candidate night; if you have the time to watch it I would certainly recommend it. It will be replayed on Sac Metro Channel 14 at 1:45pm Sundays. Starsky continued with his "I did everything" campaign speech. He made it clear he obviously doesn't like me much. He especially didn't like that fact I debunked all of his points. He said "all we need is one more big business in Folsom, this would rid us of our revenue problem." I responded with "We don't have a revenue problem, we have a SPENDING problem; you can raise all the revenue you want but until the waste is eliminated we will always be in a deficit."

The real treat of the night was after the forum; Starsky was walking out as I was speaking with some folks. He grabbed my hand in an apparent respectful handshake approach (which shocked the hell out of me) and proceeded to tell me "it's too bad you attacked me up there, I had some votes for you if you took Ernie out." Many heard him say this; I told him this is exactly why I'm running, to rid Folsom of dirty politicians like you. Ernie's got my vote."

This guy needs to go; he has no class, no respect and is either deliberately trying to keep Folsom in the red or just plain ignorant when it comes to economics.

I know that your comments are officially "hearsay" to me, yet I believe you, based on my own past observations of your opponent. Ironically, all his big signs somehow underscore a sense of being arrogant, obnoxious, and an entrenched politician. I know who doesn't have my vote. It's not even necessarily about policy; it's about character. It's also about not supporting those who expect to have council positions for life.

So after the last blanket email ( same exact sent to others as well) from Pete say that they are too busy to deal with the situation ( read above somewhere)and also copying Jeff and Kerri on a few of my emails to Pete, I decided yesterday to use the campaign info that Roger linked and called and left Jeff a couple of very rational voicemails asking him to call me back and listing the issues with his signs.

So this morning I get an email from Pete saying I might have called a candidate and that if I had any issues to call or email CODE directly... ( like that is going to do any good)

No call back from Jeff-

I have sent back the following response to Pete's email...

October 18th
Hello Pete,
Yes I have contacted a candidate and asked him to take care of his civic duty to follow the laws and ordinances of this fine city. As you know I have contacted you via phone and email on this specific issue and have asked other questions in my previous emails. Although you had initially stated that you had notified the owner of the signs, you then chose to send me a form letter that was also sent to others that have questioned you on this matter stating you are too busy to deal with this issue for now.
I again ask- if you have notified the owner of the signs why has HE not taken the action to remove those in violation of the FMC ? I suppose you will have more time after the election and while I do not really fault you personally as I see this as a 'handed down' inaction, I certainly will NOT stop pursuing it until the situation is resolved.

Is Jeff to busy to respond to the emails I have CC'd him on and too Aloof to respond to his voice mails ?

If you get further calls from Jeff- please ask him to respond in person...

Cheers
Ken
