Disagree. It is their function. And, they do have an ordinance already that bans parking on the street longer than 72 hours.

I believe the ordinance is that the car can't be left on the street for 72 hours. If you drive it every day, it is OK. Even though it may "tackify" the neighborhood.

Along those lines, how about no driveway parking?

Actually, I wonder. If I move my garbage can a few inches every 72 hours, can I be fined tongue.gif

I'm one of those who doesn't care about driveway parking. I'd rather see my neighbors instead of them driving into the garage, closing it and never knowing what they look like. A neighborhood is safer when you can at least recognize your neighbors, better is actually knowing them, and knowing if they are around or not.

Regarding street parking, in the old suburb of Chicago in which I grew up, you couldn't leave a car on the street overnight. If you had guests and didn't have room in the driveway, you had to call the make and plate into the police so you wouldn't get a ticket.

City Council, needs to be reminded of their plan. About 3 years ago, the city operated the Folsom Community Correctional Facility (FCCF). Resident's combined all of their trash, recycles, ect. in one can. Inmate's would sort everything on prison grounds.

City Council decided to close the facility because they thought they were losing money. However, lack of planning has put them in this position. They did not realize the extra expense of having trash trucks drive out to Kiefer landfill, and also recyclables to Bradshaw. This increased the wear and tear on trucks, increased the hours of solid waste workers, and now the added cans for residents.

The city has contracted with the prison for their outside work crews at $150,000 per year to help parks and streets, incidently this was also the benefit of the FCCF.

So, was the closure of the FCCF really planned out? or was it because Sam Speigel (Chief of Police) did not want the added responsibliity of overseeing the FCCF.

We have seen the salaries of these City Managers and have had dicusssions on boards. My thought is we should be recieving the very best oversight for the residents, and not what is easy or convienent for these high priced managers.

No Sam Speigel did not have anything to do with the closure of the FCCF. It was done after 4 years of difficut financial, opertional, and legal investigation. The Council made the difficult decision to close it after much work. If you really want to know what went on I am available to expand your knowledge base.

Too muchadoo about garbage cans!!! I am one of those neighbors who keep my garbage cans **neatly** lined up on the side of my garage, in ~front~ of my side gate. I don't see anything wrong or unsightly about them - and I'm a neat freak!!

I keep them out front because I had to have the gate door to our back yard repaired recently because squeezing those big arse cans back and forth through the gate caused a great deal of damage to the fence. The cans are too big to squeeze through my gates!! So, if the City wants to pay to have my gate door enlarged, then great - but in the meantime, I am not going to pay to have my gate door and fence fixed to accommodate these trash cans!

Frankly, crappy cars and too many tacky yard ornaments or fake flowers planted in the front yard offends my senses more than the garbage cans. I don't know what the big problem is. I certainly am not going to go to my neighbor and tell him that I think he should get rid off or park his teenage son's car somewhere else because it is an eyesore or tell them to tone down their tacky landscaping designs. Good grief!!!! That is their property and as long as they don't have trash strewn all over their front yard or 3 feet high weeds growing in their front yards, I let them be. I certainly would be annoyed if a neighbor came to my home to complain about the trash cans. I would think he or she had too much time on their hands and would ask them to avert their eyese when they pass my home or suggest they pay to have my gate door enlarged. dry.gif
