SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A new California law has taken effect that allows couples getting married to create new last names.
The Name Equality Act was passed by the state Legislature in 2007, but did not take effect until the start of this year.
Brides and grooms can now do any of the following:
Take either spouse's current last name.
Take either spouse's birth name. ( that would be first names)
Create a hyphenated combination of the last two last names.
Create a new name using a segment of both spouse's last names.
The Name Equality Act was authored by Assemblymember Fiona Ma, D-San Francisco, and signed into law by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
It also applies to couples registering as domestic partners.
Wanda Dark, assistant county clerk-recorder for Sacramento County, said her professional association was opposed to the legislation over concerns that some people with criminal pasts may try to use the law to create new last names and aliases.
Another great day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

Yet my mind draws a blank trying to think of a funny combination at the moment.
ngilbert, help me out.
Using ID's instead or real last names , how about Davburr marries ngilbert and become Mr & Mr Davngilburrbert

Leave it to a Democrat to come-up with such a bird-brained idea.

California is an embarrassment.

Create a new name using a segment of both spouse's last names.
Hasn't this always been? I know a few people who have each of these. The hyphenated last name thing has been around since the 70's.

Next they are going to put a "meter on your toilet" to see how many flushes you use and a meter on your faucet and shower head to see how much water you are using.. and then of course... wel... I'd better stop here...

Thanks for your faith in me, but the truth is funnier than anything we could make up. For example, I feel sorry for any future Long-Wiwi children

Leave it to a Republican Governor signing such a bird-brained idea into law.

Let us know when we get a Republican governor. We haven't had one in a long time.

I'm thinking the Wangholders may want to start setting aside some money for child psychology bills now.
This looks like a fun-loving couple:

NEWS FLASH:
Schwarzenegger is NOT a Republican. He's as Liberal as it gets.
He was elected only due to his celebrity. He could have run as a 'Martian", and still have been elected.
The majority of Californians are simpleton dolts.
