Another venture opening in Folsom. Chez Daniel will be opening in the former acorn cafe location. The owner is Daniel Ponte of the Le Bonn Soup that was located downtown and closed a few months back. To add some insight of how great of a chef Daniel is, he can lay claim to being a proud owner of a little hole in the wall with a 45 min. wait everyday that is not only a Zagat rated but also the recipiant of a prestigious Michelin Star,,, not easy to come by in the vast universe of quality food. He is planning on only being open for dinners and will focus on classical french cuisine. I will keep you posted as the situation arises.

Sounds like something to look forward to.

I have to wonder why that location and not the old Mandares location?

That's wonderful! I never got to go to the downtown soup place, but I heard great things about it. :D:

Great news, I've always wanted to try his soup.... but gosh, is that location cursed? We all loved Acorn Cafe, and that really struggled. I know I never go over to that side of town to eat. I hope it's a different story for him.

He'll do well anywhere. People line up an hour ahead of time for his food...

I have no qualms about going to that area to eat, especially for a high quality meal. In my mind what cursed Acorn Cafe was the fact that the restaurant was too small with tables on top of one another.

With so few tables and the restaurant only serving one meal a day, I wonder how a restaurant can generate enough revenues to sustain. If I go out for classical French cuisine I'm thinking of a leisurely meal, so table turnover isn't going to be that high either. I wonder if they'll take reservations; I'm not about to wait 45 minutes for a seat.

I do wish him the best of success. I just wonder why a chef with this kind of a following didn't select a larger venue.

I don't know, I hear about a chef specializing in soup and the soup Nazi always comes to mind.

Probably because in Sacramento, he was a one man show! He shopped for ingredients in the morning, and when his food was out, he closed!

Hey that's great news! I was hoping something good would go in at the old Acorn Cafe place.... I have several clients in that area. I like that older part of Folsom.

that's a strange spot for dinners only. its location across from city hall makes a better lunch spot, especially if he were still doing the hole-in-the-wall soup concept. fancy french dinners in that little space? hmmmm. I wish he would have found a better spot, but maybe the smaller the better for him.

I'll definately give him a try and as much support as possible!

Yeah. I'm not so keen on fancy french dinners, but I LOVED his soup/salad/sandwiches at his place downtown. I hope there's something a little more low-brow on the menu for a plebeian like me.
