There is nothing here or on the facebook page that tells us what makes you an expert on violence. Who are you? What are the categories of violence or resolution that you will cover?

Is this going to be an eye dropping power point presentation or a long laundry list of professional witnesses giving harrowing tales of damaged people maiming others without any useful tools for escape - Really, sorry to seem so blunt (thats my talent) but Im fed up with wasting my time listening to school counselors talk about 0 tolerance which equates to innocent or bullied kids being forced to go attend other school districts while perpetrators continue on with their nefarious misdeeds.

I could go on, but i think you get the drift :)

SPEAKER OVERVIEW

Mr. Alvarez is the founder of Alvarez Associates and the Violence Prevention Academy, a firm specializing in workplace violence prevention.    Having been both a security director for a major national critical infrastructure and a city police officer, he has built over 25 years of experience in the field of violence prevention. For 15 years he directed cutting edge security programs focused specifically on preventing and responding to "active shooters" in private sector environments.  He understands the challenges organizations and communities face addressing the threat of violence.  Hector has the privilege of working with organizations both corporate and community based to build safer communities through keynote speeches, workshops, security assessments, trainings and behavioral threat assessments. He has personally evaluated and managed hundreds of potentially violent situations, developed numerous violence prevention programs and trained thousands of employees and managers in workplace violence prevention. He has also witnessed the collapse of civil order first-hand as a responder to both the Loma Prieta Earthquake and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Mr. Alvarez continues to serve his local community as a volunteer police officer, which he has done for almost 10 years.   He was recognized as Reserve Officer of the year on two separate occasions.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice for the University of Phoenix.

PRESENTATION OVERVIEWS

Personal Safety - This program can be geared towards men and women of all ages and walks of life.  Unfortunately, threats of violence exists in every facet of our daily lives.  There are some very simple things you can do to increase your personal safety.  Protecting yourself, your loved ones and our communities from the threat of violence is the focus of this presentation.   You will learn how to recognize the warning signs of potential violence and lifesaving strategies if the unthinkable ever happens to you.

Workplace Violence Prevention - Business owners, managers and employees face overwhelming challenges to the success of their organization. One issue that has received significant attention in recent months is workplace violence.  OSHA reports that approximately two million workers are victims of workplace violence annually. This presentation will provide organizations with an overview of the major issues surround violence in the workplace and what steps can be taken to address the risks.

Surviving Active Violence- In the unlikely event that extreme violence occurs where you are, it’s going to be like nothing you have ever experienced.   You will have to make very quick, life and death decisions in order to survive. Bluntly, it is naive to think that police officers will be there in the first critical moments.   This presentation will provide you with simple to understand strategies to increase your chances of surviving and making home to the ones you love.

Sounds like a waste of breath. teens dont think like work place violence incidents. Their reasoning is not even in the same wavelength. Being a professional physical security specialist does not equate to the psychology of a teen bent to kill.

So what are your qualifications to atalk about violence on school campuses?

Im not trying to give you a hard time. I just think your speaker notes would probably be better served at a walmart employee meeting than to a bunch of highschool parents.

I think you're judging too harshly.

"sounds like a waste of______ (fill in the blanks)" seems to be the battle cry of pessimists everywhere.

You name the topic, someone will tell you it's of no use.

I've actually been to one of Mr. Alvarez' classes, and it was quite enlightning.

Will it prevent every single violent event from occuring? No.

Can it help save lives? Absolutely.

Is it worth talking about? Every day.

As one who has received training in both workplace and School active shooter incidents, This class sounds great. Why would you not want this Info ? All active shooter have one thing in common, They are out to get someone or group and make a statement. That's the common factor that's been proven in reviewing these incidents.
