FYI -

Found out from my wife (I'm on a business trip) who was told by our mailman today that all the mail boxes on my street were broken into Monday night around 7pm and everyone's mail was stolen.

The back doors of the boxes were sheered off (cut?) and are now broken. No mail can be delivered until the boxes are all repaired, so in the meanwhile all mail will need to be picked up at the post office on Riley.

The thieves hit every box on my street Luna Circle near Riley/Cruickshank.

Too bad nobody heard or noticed that going on last night.  Keep an eye out folks, the bad people are out there, call the PD if you see anyone or anything that looks out of place.

I'm sorry to hear this, Dave. We've heard from our mail carrier that these break-ins are on the rise. I hope those responsible for these crimes are caught.

I did see a similar post on that other neighborhood forum.

Hopefully my cameras will deter theives in my neighborhood even though I'm not next to the mailboxes.

It's that time of year when packages will also go missing from front porches.  Sometimes the thieves actually follow the UPS/FedEx drivers around while they're delivering packages.  It's despicable.

I've got 3 dogs, not sure how that would help but would be happy to sick them on the thieves to tear them to shreds (BTW, they're vicious killer Chihuahua's trained to go for the jugular vein on command, at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it heh)

Agree about getting rid of the community boxes but what do you mean about using a disabled box at my address?

hhm hhhhmm hum

<mumbling>

Disabled/elderly can put a box next to their front door/screen so that they don't have to chance a misstep by stepping outside. Just gotta tell the PO you're disabled and they will deliver to box beside your door (must conform to proper size/dimension and affixed properly to permanent object or they will red tape the idea and send you bureaucrat-calling to get delivery service.)

Folsom is considered a rural delivery route so they will provide this service

Mail thefts can be a major pain in the arse, but claiming a false disability? That's just not right.

You told Dave Burrell to use a disabled box at his address. Are you under the impression that he is elderly or disabled?

Just reported. All the boxes on Porter Rd in ER were hit last night. Boxes all empty and junk mail strewn all over the ground.

Unfortunately nuisance crimes like mail boxes being broken into are going to become more common as more convicted criminals are diverted from the prisons and jails back into the communities without serving their sentences, It's just a predictable consequence of laws like A.B. 109 (Prison Realignment) and Prop. 47.

Right, and it has nothing to do with the increase in gifts, cards, and $$ that is mailed this time of year? How often does this happen from Jan thru Nov?

A few boxes on my street got hit last year. USPS dude said to check your mail every day and you'll be fine since they tend to get hit at night. Luckily, ours was not hit. We tend to check mail about twice a week.
