My wife took me to Crush 29 for a pre-birthday dinner last night (tonight we go with my our kids).

It was simply outstanding.

If you've never been, you must. Wine is the theme, and it looks like a combination of high tech and wine cellar, with a large circular bar area in the center.

The parking lot was packed (what bad economy?), and there were people waiting for tables when we entered.

We first did a bit of wine tasting in their little retail/tasting room, then were seated by the fireplace.

Started with the coconut prawn appetizers, which were very good, crunchy on the outside but plump and moist on the inside.

My wife had the Drunken Brandy Steak with mushrooms and mashed potatoes, which she enjoyed, but I'm not a big steak eater, so I went for the Glazed Sea Bass with Asian stir fry veggies and steamed rice.

That was the best restaurant meal I've had in a long time.

Service was great, from Jacob in the wine room, to our server, Kristen in the dining room.

Prices are very reasonable, too. It's great for special occasions or just apps at the bar.

The manager tells me that they had considered opening in a new place in Folsom or Eldo Hills, but have just signed a deal to open at 16th and K in mid-town Sac, and they don't think the area can support 3 locations.

So, Roseville isn't too far, and it's worth the trip.

It is a nice place, but I think it's more geared to the meat market clientele.
I would rather be Backpacking

That is indeed a nice restaurant with excellent food, fantastic drinks and a great ambiance. As for the meat market, that appears to hover only around the circular bar and it's easy to avoid.

When I was there last night, I did notice some singles in the bar area, but it was all couples and groups in the restaurant.

Yes, but what kind of "groups" are you talking about here....

I ate there about a year ago. It was good, but I wouldn't say the prices are "very reasonable. The proper term would be "pricey" (but not as much as Morton's).

The one thing I most recall was it was really, really NOISY.

I remember ordering a steak, asking for a wine recommendation, and the waitress suggesting:

"well, you could go with a red, or perhaps a white".

I waited for Natomas to open for so long (that was supposed to be their first location, now since put on hold). Never realized they opened up elsewhere. Will have to check it out.
