Construction of the Johnny Cash Bike Trail is set to begin soon.  This is the first time I've seen what the bridge over Folsom Lake Crossing will look like.  Pretty cool.

The city of Folsom soon will begin construction of the Johnny Cash Trail, a 2.5-mile bike trail near Folsom State Prison. A concrete bridge crossing Folsom Lake Crossing echoes design elements of the prison gates.

I watched the city council meeting as they went over this. The towers are kind of like the prison towers.

That makes sense since Cash sang about Folsom Prison. I love it!

there is already a bridge crossing the long bridge. WTH do we need another?

What a waste of development monies that could be used for other purposes.

It is going to go over the Folsom Lake Crossing at the top of the hill, East of the dam.

Bridge will go over the East/West road way. The bridge will be in a North/South direction.

Oh Great!  Now our bike trails are going to be overrun with people from El Dorado Hills too!

(just kidding)

That looks like it is going to be a nice ride.

What a waste of development monies that could be used for other purposes.

The bridge is part of the trail and will cross the entrance to Lake Natoma crossing, connecting the Johnny Cash trail to the existing trail that runs down East Natoma and along Lake Natoma Crossing.

It's part of the larger plan to connect our trails.

The money comes from a combination of State and Federal grants, along with city impact fees.

Grant monies cannot be used for anything but what they were granted for. In other words, you can't take money that an agency gives for a specific project, such as bike trail, and then determine that it would best be spent on something else, such as a kid's after school program, a 'feed the homeless' project, or a new fire truck.

I think this trail will go a long way for making it safer, easier and more fun to ride, jog or walk around town, and will be counted as one more reason Folsom is a great place to live and visit.

I agree.  Our trails are one of the things Folsom got right and make it a better place to live.

Could not agree with Steve more on this.  My family is relocating to the Sacramento area this spring.  As avid cyclists, the bike paths are a major reason we are choosing Folsom over other local communities.

As others have already stated, this is going to be great. Does anyone know an estimated completion date??

Ground-breaking should be the 26th or 27th and is open to the public. The trail will be done in phases, and the completion date has been somewhat of a moving target.

I'll see what I can find out.
