I think I'm going to get one. The driving force right now is that my wife love to play music and concert videos on Youtube and friends tell me that these devices are great for that.

I'm also curious though, as to what the 'tons of content' people are talking about and how the device actually works.

Last year there was an article stating that people were cancelling their cable TV and going for these streaming devices instead.

If true, how are they receiving and delivering the content? Are they receivers? Antennae? Is the content free? If not free, then why not keep cable?

What do you have?

I'm leaning toward the Roku stick because CNN says it has over 1200 apps and easy search for content, but takes 30 seconds to boot up Netfllx and Youtube. 30 seconds doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

Your thoughts?

I have a Smart TV so it streams over my wifi connection without any additional sticks.

Knowing the past helps deciphering the future.

Wouldnt this be the same as just plugging your laptop into your tv and using the amazon-netflix-hulu features? We do this at our house and enjoy constant streaming.

Besides, I think we lost the tv remote control a long time ago.

We got Chromecast last year but rarely use it because it doesn't seem to work well with my Mac. It works fine through my husband's android, though. We recently got the Fire Stick to see if that would provide us with a good streaming option, but haven't yet connected it yet.

I just wish we could stream live sports because then I would finally be able to cancel cable. If only...

I am with you on that one completely. I have no desire to go to a bar and watch a game week in and out.

lol, America is losing its' Herd need.

Becoming more and more like secluded animals sitting behind individual screens rather than socializing in physical form.
