Forget filling up Folsom Lake, Amgen, the Johnny Cash Trail, and landing on many 'best places to live' lists.

The best thing to happen to Folsom in recent memory is.....the 99 Ranch Market!

Okay, maybe I exaggerate a bit in comparing it to those other things, but it is pretty awesome.

If you don't know, 99 Ranch is a chain of Asian-themed supermarkets, and they just opened in the  center/space  om  di.

They feature imported and specialty foods you just can't get at your standard supermarket.

Live crabs are $5.99 per pound. Other markets are selling them for $4.99 to $10.99 for cooked ones.  I buy live ones whenever possible because a) you don't know how old the cooked ones are, and b) You don't know if they were fresh (alive) before cooking.

They have quite a variety of mushrooms, vegetables and fruits.

You can get yam leaves, green pea leaves and radish leaves. All delicious.

Their hot counter has dim sum, as well as self-serve lunch plates, roast duck and pork.

One of my favorites, is their selection of hot sauces. I'm an addict. I admit it.

They also have imported sake, rice wine, and shoju.

Go check them out, and try something new!

Yes oysters and several varieties of clams.  Fresh whole fish looked good.

Yes they do! Fresh whole fish on ice, dressed in the cooler, live crab, lobster, several types of clams and oysters.

yes very extensive.. even some live Fish - although one was swimming upside down...- on ice-   heads ( not sure eyeballs are still good on fresh on ice, but will look closer next time..., odd slices, and others .  I was only in there for a bit to look around but will be back to purchase soon...

My only --sigh--- was that they did not put in the deep fryer that I was so fond of in Hayward --- could take any fresh fish, have it  deep fried and take  home for an immediate meal...

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

If I'm not mistaken, they do indeed have a fryer there. It is closer to meat section against the wall.

THAT would be great ! I will look - Like I said it was just an exploratory visit and I had a friend with me that was less interested than I was...

Bought a live lobster today; lobster rolls for supper tonight!

The market is clean and well organized, and things look pretty fresh.   And, of course, the variety and options.  Glad to have it in the neighborhood.
