The bank I think we could do without. I just hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

Which bank is it?

It'll be a seed for more chain business' on Sutter Street. Something I had hoped would never happen to such a beatiful area of Folsom.
I'm sad to see this happening and think its a really bad move for that area.
Is Jerry going to turn Old Town into a strip mall area for train commuters to shop during stops?
The black rooster is a 1000x's better then Starbucks and its worth an extra 50 cents for their goods compared to Starbuck$
I was hoping Folsom would never turn into another Roseville

Unfortunately, we prove, time and again, that the people of Folsom, and in communities around the country, want chains.
Think of how many independent restaurants have come and gone, some lasting only months, whereas chains, such as BJ's, Mimi's, Applebee's and Macaroni Grill are packed, night after night.
We don't want good. We don't want unique. We want sameness. That's what those places sell; sameness.
I'll never forget going on a business trip to Japan with a host and 5 others. The host, who had lived in Japan, wanted to show us the 'real' Tokyo. He knew where to go to experience the art, culture, and the great food (not expensive if you know where to go).
The rest of the group wanted to go to Roppongi, the district where most of the tourists are American or European, and where one can find Denny's, Burger King, McDonald's and the Hard Rock Cafe.
These people travelled half a world away to eat a Grand Slam Breakfast and a cheeseburger? They wanted the sameness they had at home.
Don't be too surprised if we find the GAP and Sunglass Hut opening on Sutter. They are guaranteed success.

What always makes me think about the chain/culture thing is just going back to New York. When I go back there to visit family, I love all the culture and history. I love that the food is so unique, compared to what we're used to. The cold cuts and cheeses on Arthur Avenue. Yum!
It is sad to see how much people appreciate the sameness. Ray Kroc figured that one out early.

Mweh. Just okay, but nothing to get excited about. I do have to admit, they are about the best we have, but I wish we had better.
Watstein - I have always said that Starbuck's puts crack in their espresso!
It's ironic, though, that Starbuck's is the most reasonably priced coffee that I've seen. I'm not saying it's not a waste of money, but they are cheaper than most (It's a Grind, Java City, Coffee Republic, etc).
Is that location where the steak house is supposed to go?

The steakhouse is (hopefully) going on the east end of Sutter. Up from Chicago Fire.
I believe the Starbucks is rumoured to be going into the existing building at the other end of Sutter, across from Pachanga. Where Lockdown Brewing Co. was supposed to go.

The guy who owns powerhouse and those bldgs is smart - he's bringing in the right business' to make Sutter Street a happening place to be. He did good with Scarlets and expanding Chicago Fire
IMO, Sutter Street now ends entirely at Pachanga's, nothing worthwhile beyond that great place now that I found Jerry's screwing things up with putting in chains on Sutter.
What a disspointment Jerry is turning out to be, I thought he was going to do good for Sutter but that does not appear to be the case. I hope he doesn't lease the other part of his bldg out to Walmart or something like that, but who knows - maybe thats next in his plans for Sutter - turn it into a commercial chain shopping center just like every other strip mall around town.
Maybe the guy who owns Powerhouse (sorry, forgot his name) could teach Jerry a few lessons on how to bring in business' that people are interested in and that make an area great.
Chain restaurants and business' suck! I'd rather support the little guys and the unique independant places.

At least it's not a chain, but an independent business. That's what a lot of people want to see down there.

The toy store will be very nice, a bank and starbucks is basically innocuous. And speaking of shameless greed (since you brought it up in a previous post), who's doing the whining here? The guy who didn't get to put the bar in? His friends? I doubt it's the other local merchants or families who patronize Sutter street.
