We used to be able to drive to the North Granite Bay area and, if you had a capable vehicle, drive off Park Road and enjoy the day parked lakeside. Area spanning from Granite Beach through Dotons Point toward Beeks Bight.

Haven't been in awhile but now it seems the road is closed after Granite Beach.  Anybody know why?

Are there other areas with vehicular lakeside access now (where one might picnic for the day with kayaks)?

I read that they close the road when the lake is above the 450 ft level.

Have you tried Beals Point?

Thanks Steve. The lake does look full. I'm not sure but it sounds like the north side is open during the week but closed on weekends. So, this may be something to do with traffic?  Seemed like a lot of people were surprised - lots of cars turned around.

Beals Point - do they have vehicle access to lakeside? I don't think they do but not sure.  Explicitly - drive up to the water's edge so that you can drop your kayak into the water and also picnic at the same spot (park the vehicle at the water's edge). You could do that at North (past the main beach area); not sure Beals Point provides this access. I'll check again.

They have a huge parking lot, and depending on water level, the lake can almost come right to it. There is no boat ramp, but you can walk to the water pretty easily.

On a related note, have you tried the kayak ramp behind the Lake Natoma Inn?

I was at Granite Bay - Beeks Bight last week ( 3/29)on Thursday and the lake was at 450 feet- same as it was this week and beach access off road at the various usual locations was full access. I had heard it might not be available on the weekend but know nothing about that.

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

Yes, that's consistent with what I'm learning - access is open during the week but closed on weekends. But don't know why yet. Not sure when that started.

I'm looking for other lakeside access points now.
