I am so sorry to hear that. I jog the trails regularly, and some of the cyclists treat them like they are their own private raceway.
I hope this young man recovers.

I'm sure the cyclist feels terrible, probably bent a rim and all that.
Some friends went out for a ride right after Christmas on their new bikes hoping for an enjoyable ride and they were harassed for about 45 min by the spandex professionals out there for being too slow and "getting in the way." Friggin jerks.

Agreed.
The trails are not raceways, and this is not the Tour de France. If you want to go fast, you need to cycle on roads.
4th Gen, did this happen this morning, or yesterday?

So sorry to hear this tragic news. Hopefully it is a wake-up call and the trails will be used more carefully and respectfully.

I saw this on the news yesterday morning and they reported that both the runner and the cyclist had been taken away by ambulance, but I had no idea the injuries to the runner were so extensive. Runners and pedestrians shouldn't need to wear helmets.
I hope Mr. Williams recovers and soon.

This is so very sad. I hope fireman recovers. Slow down folks, you do not own a private raceway.

I hope they'll both be okay.
I wonder what time of morning this happened. If it was early enough that it was still dark out, then I wonder if the bicyclist had a good light on his bike (many have none) and/or whether the jogger wore visible clothing (many don't). Also, if the jogger was hit from behind, someone was in the wrong lane.
As with driving, everyone needs to follow the rules and do what they can to be predictable.

Did anyone see the Fox40 piece on this yesterday? They were talking to runners and cyclists and I swear these cyclists are the most smug group of people I have ever seen. They were basically saying that it's runners fault for wearing ear buds and not their fault for speeding or any accidents. What a group of tools.
