Come out early and get a good place to plop yourself down.

My wife, son and I will be out this year.

I don't think there will be any bands this year as they are having a band meet somewhere else.

Come out and enjoy. It starts around 9 AM and usually runs about just less than 2 hours.

Folsom's Veterans Day Parade Saturday

Folsom residents will honor the nation's veterans at the 17th annual Wayne Spence Folsom Veterans Day Parade Saturday, November 11. The parade begins at 9 a.m. at the HomeGoods/Target parking lot, 430 Blue Ravine Road, and will include nearly 3,000 participants with floats, classic cars, riders on horseback, color guard and more. Local dignitaries and veterans will judge the parade entries from a reviewing stand and award outstanding entries in a number of categories. Immediately following the parade, a brief ceremony to honor local veterans will be held at the Veterans Memorial in Folsom City Lions Park.

This year's parade theme is "Remembering Our Veterans and Their Sacrifices." Local veteran Fred Tully, Jr. serves as grand marshal of the parade. Mr. Tully served 21 years of active duty with the U.S. Marine Corps and is a three-time Purple Heart recipient.

The 1.5-mile parade will commence at 430 Blue Ravine Road and will enter E. Bidwell Street from Montrose Drive. The parade will travel westbound on E. Bidwell Street, northbound on Coloma Street, and will proceed to Natoma Street. The parade will conclude at the Folsom Community Center at 52 Natoma Street.

The Folsom Police Department will coordinate a temporary closure of all lanes of traffic on E. Bidwell Street from approximately 8 to 11 a.m.  Natoma Street from Coloma to Wales Drive will close from approximately 9:15 to 11:15 a.m.  Closures will be lifted immediately after the parade ends.  Detours around the parade will be marked. Motorists are encouraged to take Riley and School streets as alternate routes.

The parade will be held rain or shine. For more information, call 916-351-3521 or email tocampo@folsom.ca.us .

A VETERAN Whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount "up to and including their life". That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -Author unknown-
