We went for lunch today. Another attempt at the Chinese restaurant between Folsom and NS on Blue Ravine. Unlike Yummy Kitchen, these guys bought themselves a cool sign. The food was tasty and well presented, the owner was funny and attentive, the place is lightly remodeled.

What did you have? Do they use MSG or are they MSG-free? Does it lean more toward American style Chinese food? Is it your typical Sweet and Sour Pork just done a little better (less greasy, less syrupy, less neon, etc)?

Or if they lean toward Chinese style, do you know if they have a regional influence? I'd love something that leaned more toward a northern or Taiwanese style.

Their website says they serve authentic chinese cuisine, with a modern twist, whatever that means... They also have their menu online if you want to take a look.

They definitely have the standbys. I had shrimp in lobster and egg sauce, it was great. I have no idea about MSG.

We were there for dinner with friends last night. They have two menus and also promise to make dishes that are not on the menu. They have some regular chinese dishes that you normally would see in any chinese restaurant and some unusual dishes too. We wanted to try some unsual dishes, so we ordered fried fried pumpkin coated with salty eggs, Fried Milk ( delicious), salt & pepper tofu ( tofu was crisp on the outside, well seasoned and creamy inside) sauteed with jalapenos & shallots, Singapore vermicelli ( flavorful) to name a few. Service was top notch, the manager came quite a few times to check if everything was ok. We are definitely going back

I went to the ribbon cutting last week. They treated us to salt and pepper pork, some chow mein and I believe, orange chicken.

Pretty Americanized, but I understand they have more traditional Chinese stuff

The stuff was comped, so we didn't order anything.

I wanted to order something to bring home, and discovered for the 3rd time that day, that I didn't have my wallet. I had gone to the store to get some gum (damn! I forgot my wallet). Later went to Lowe's to buy a gift card (that's right, I don' t have my wallet!), and finally, at Lotus 8 'this stuff is GOOD! I'll order something to take home! (dammit!)

But I digress...

Really nice folks who are putting their heart and soul into this place, and I hope they succeed. Next time, I'll bring my wallet.

Ribbon cutting?  Months after they opened?

Yes. Pretty common for businesses to have grand openings and/or ribbon cutting after they've gotten the kinks out, joined a chamber of commerce, or are just ready.

Perhaps you should look into getting one of these to keep track of your wallet.

This restraunt is still very good! It's not ypur typical Chinese restaurant, which is great because there are enough of those.  Interesting flavors, fresh ingredients.  By the way, very vegetarian and vegan friendly.
