As the growth of mexican restaurants has slowed, it appears sub shops are still growing.  Jersey Mikes is coming to the Commonwealth center (Raley's).  Now we will have a Starbucks and sub shop on every corner.

Not a sandwhich fan.

Thought I'd try to figure out the other shops......Firehouse, Subway, Beachhut deli, Mr Pickles, Togo's, Quizno's...what else?

Don't know much about Jersey Mikes, Hopefully it will be good although i my expectations are not too high, Probably just another chain sub shop with cold cuts. It would be nice to be able to get a good cheese steak or french dip in town.

I don't see much difference between the various sandwich chains around town.

One exception is Firehouse. They welcome everyone who comes in, donate to charity, and have some interesting varieties. The hot sauce selection is great, too.

I guess empty store fronts are a much better alternative? Especially in that shopping center that has been or still is mostly vacant?

If you have been around this forum for a while you are well aware that shopping center has chosen to be vacant and sent many an owner packing due to high rent increases.

That didn't seem to be the point of your post though, did I miss that?

I agree about Firehouse, It is a little better then the others and it's good that their involved in the community. I just look forward to an independant sub shop like Granites coming to town where you can get a good hot sub, The closest thing we have to that now is Dominic's in Granite Bay.

Closer to that is Dominic's in Folsom.

I haven't been to the one on Folsom Blvd. in a while, But as i recall it's more of a pizza place then deli. The one in Granite bay is more of a deli with a larger selection and it's attached to their restaurant next door, Which is also good.

If that's the case that's too bad, I hate to see small family type businesses close.

They have a good deli in Folsom, order sandwiches all the time.   I too hope it is not closing.

Wild Bill's makes a solid cheese steak.  Not East coast good, but solid.

I was by there yesterday and they are working on the corner store that used to be that weird pay by the hour day care pretty much across from Raleys. They are also working on the old My Gym spot too but that area is pretty isolated and doesn't have great parking.

Never understood this attitude. Isn't this a good thing? New ones open and the low-performers eventually disappear and overall selection quality increases? Or they don't disappear because they were needed to satisfy the market? I guess some would have preferred that we started rejecting new sub shops once we reached our capacity of Subways and Togos in the 90s. Mr. Pickle's, Beachhut and Firehouse be damned... DAMNED I SAY!!!  Or better yet, stop the free market and wait for our soylent green rations so we aren't bothered with nuisance sub shops on every corner catering to the zombie masses.
