Hey Joe, I brought my 2 sons, 26 and 27 year old sons who are well educated in good music since they were young. We were second row, on the right side. I must say, they were very good...! I liked the singer, he was good and entertaining, a little alto from the original but a fine showman and technically very good. Loved the horn section, always a joy to my ears, a good horn section...! All three of them were very good, well tuned to the music they were trying to replicate, not a small task by any means. Base guy was really into his job, drummer was top notch, top notch for sure, the guy is very, very good....! Backup girls (women) singers were awesome and had good pipes, especially the older one..... Keyboard guy was very good, very close to the original licks.... Lead guitar guy was technically pretty good but not really there (emotionally) and he got lost a few times during critical and complicated sections.... Sound guy had him a bit too muted during some critical riffs that should have been louder, not subdued... But he (the lead) had probably the most biggest shoes to fill of them all on the stage. Overall, I'd say an A- performance, or a 9.5 out of 10. But I am hard to please musically.... I would recommend them to others for sure, now that we can't really see the real deal any more. RIP Walter Becker.
And I was at the Led Zeppelin 2 concert last month.... Now that was very awesome, the guitar work was spectacular. Of the two I'd say Led Zep was my favorite, but just by a smidgen.
And I did these two concerts as a replacement for my usual pilgrimage to the bay area in October to see my favorite musician, Neil Young and his Bridge School Benefit. I do so miss those concerts....! I have been to maybe 15 or 20 over the years.... My favorite concert of all time is the Bridge School Concert and I was a faithful attendee. Maybe someday it will come back....? Neil does what he does, does what he feels like, does it for the music, and that is it... We "Rustys" just have to be patient.... I will just eat a peach and wait....
