I've collected some bits of mixed scrap metal.  Steel, brass, copper, zinc, etc., from a variety of home improvement and construction demolition and projects.    I'd like it to go someplace where it might be recycled; seems a shame to put it in the municipal waste.   I'm not too concerned with whether I get any money for it, just want to keep it out of a landfill.

Any recommendations for where to take it, and how to go about it?

Any experience with the Schnitzer Steel location in Rancho?   How does it work?  Do they entertain homeowners with a couple of boxes (as opposed to a truck-load)?

I went to TKO on Folsom Blvd. They see to take everything.

I think I got $6 for a couple of brass light fixtures and copper wiring.

The City of Folsom Yard can take the items.  I dropped off steel items at a scheduled time from the City Waste Office.   Give them a call in the am if you do not want to hassle with a long line.     The City should recycle all metal items in the correct way.

Thanks for the pointers, all.

I gave TKO a try.  Smooth transaction, nice enough people.

Mission accomplished.
