Such an absolute tragedy - he was just going out for a run and now he will never be the same. Prayers for his friends and family.

Any word from the cyclist that ran him over?

If you were on the "Orangevale" side of the river from Rainbow Bridge heading west, all of that is part of the American River Parkway trail.

I'm not sure where one ends and the other begins, but I ran out about 4.5 miles from Rainbow Bridge heading west toward Hazel, then turned back. I noticed '25' painted on the road at 2 spots.
That's a mile marker.

I stopped a state parks guy in a truck on the trail and he said the speed limit is 15mph. He frowned at the belief of a 25mph sign and said it may have been a sign facing a road way instructing vehicles crossing over it. No where along the bike trails in the region is the speed limit for cyclists over 15mph.
As for the fireman, its very sad. There is a movement to help the family out with budget costs on a go fund me site.
As for the cyclist, he was injured as well. His injuries were not life threatening. There is an investigation going on- but at this time there is no speculation into any arrests or citations.
This type of accident is incredibly sad and I'm sure it will have life-long consequences for everyone involved, including family members of both people involved.

Good news. Firefighter Williams is finally home to recover. His doctors are predicting he will have a full recovery with little to no permanent deficits.
