I met Starsky once, he seemed like a car salesman to me.

According to the city website:

City Council Annual Compensation

Postion Earnings  -Mayor $8,760  - Vice Mayor $7,560  - Council Member $7,560

Plus health care, correct?

Knowing the past helps deciphering the future.

This third termwill be Ernie's last as a city councilman.  There  will be as strong push for Ernie to be chosen  as Mayor   He's never been the mayor, so if Roger is elected to the council,I woud assume he will side with Ernie and they will need to convince either Howell, Morin or Miklos to vote Ernie as Mayor.  Should be intriguing.  If Starsky is elected, you can throw out any notion of Ernie as mayor.

Just wondering, does anyone know what a City Council position pays? And Mayor? I assume they are paid..?

City Council members including the vice mayor receive $7,560 annually.  The mayor receives $8,760 annually.

here is the link to the salary page on the cities website.

Looks like Roger's going to do it.

Somebody posted something yesterday and it said that there were still 34,000 provisional votes left to count? And that it will be done by Wed?

Is there a day when this all has to be finalized?

That's the total count county-wide, not just for Folsom.  I think they have 28 or 30 days from the election to certify the results so it will be soon.

According to the Cal Secretary of State website, "County elections officials have approximately one month to complete their extensive tallying, auditing, and certification work. Final certified results are due to the Secretary of State for presidential electors on December 6, 2016, and all other state contests on December 9, 2016. The Secretary of State will certify the statewide results by December 16, 2016."

The whole thing is weird. You'd think a city-wide contest would have been wrapped up by now. I can understand why a county election would take longer, but a city of 72,000 people?

Or am I missing something?

It takes a long time to count the absentee ballots because they compare the signature on each ballot with the signature they have on file for that voter. Before they can count a provisional ballot they have to make sure the individual didn't already vote. For the really close legislative and congressional races the campaigns actually have staff members who sit at the elections offices all day to watch the process.

Thanks, SCA.

I keep forgetting about the *cheating factor* and what it takes to combat it.

I was surprised how many people were dropping off ballots at my voting spot.  I've always assumed the counting is countywide, so even if Folsom has 100 outstanding ballots, we still may not know the counts until the entire county is counted.

Yet another example of our lame system, when it takes forever to figure out who won, and the small margin of votes between candidates makes cheating seem like a possibility.

To be fair, there should probably be a run-off election of the Top 3, but what a pain, and what an expense.  Plus, in such a run-off election, Gaylord and Sheldon would end up 1 and 2 by a wide margin over Starsky, IMO, because the "challenger" vote would all be consolidated in Gaylord, as opposed to diluted across three challengers.

Fair elections can be difficult.  I appreciate the registrars office verifying signatures to make sure the ballots are legitimate; it is a slow process.
