Head down to Sutter St for the annual Folsom Pro Rodeo Cattle Drive and Parade.

This is a fun, small-townie, family oriented event.

Bring the kids.

Party afterward with live band.

Bodie was beautiful and got a big cheer!

I must say, the cattle part of this drive has really dwindled. I used to love it when a large herd of cattle -- I'm thinking 40 or 50-- went all the way down Natoma Street. Sure, a few of them would run up on lawns, but no harm done.

This year, I don't think there were more than a dozen cattle, and they were completely walled off by about three times as many horses. It was really a shadow of what the event used to be.

I guess it's to make the event safer -- and it's hard to argue with that -- but it sure lacked the excitement and "wild west" aura it used to have.

Completely agree. We went a few years ago and our boys loved watching them run down the street. When we've gone the past few years it felt as though we saw more of Folsom PD on their bikes than anything else. Unfortunately our boys weren't interested this year because it wasn't "The way it used to be." Complete bummer. We sure would love for them to figure out a way to bring it back to what it used to be.

I can only echo the last couple of comments. We moved here at the end of 1995, and went to the cattle drive every year (it was at noon on Friday, which I preferred as well). The main attraction was the large number of cattle, which were then penned up for close-up viewing afterward. For the past few years, the event has been a whimper of its former self. I'm the only one left in my family who even bothers attending.

I've had a very different experience. While it is true that the cattle are flanked by wranglers to protect the crowd, I'd guess there were closer to 30 or so head.

As for the parade itself, the police mounted detail was at the very end. Before that we had the Painted Ladies, a precision drill team, the US army, the usual parade of dignitaries, wagons, and riders.

I thought it was great.

Well, we went last night.
Or, attempted to.

On the way my son's bike blew a tire. Then he managed to pop the other while walking it to me. I met him part way and loaded him up. We spent the entire "parade" time at the bike shop getting various parts replaced from the accident. By the time we walked with a now functioning bike over to Sutter Street it was over and they were loading the bulls into trailers.

We walked around, enjoyed the different tents. I especially like the one that had homemade aprons for sale; and then my starving bicyclist needed a tritip sandwhich. After that I took my starving bicyclist home for his meal because the sandwich was not enough for his teen appetite ( He went home and ate a pizza, some chips, a couple glasses of water).

I was really bummed. oh well. next year, though. Always next year.

The cattle wranglers, etc., I understand are really expensive and harder to get. I think its wonderful the Chamber still puts this on, year after year. I hope they continue to in the future.

I love the parade being added. When I lived in Alaska, every little town had their own 4th of July Parade and any one could enter. It was so fun seeing the kids riding with their decorated bikes and the other funny and/or creative entries. Folsom used to do this in the 1910s. I would love to see this happen again. anyone else interested? I'd do it!

Sounds adorable. Maybe some people doing speeches like the declaration of independence and the gettysburg address. A paul revere ride(to all the local saloons, ofcoarse)?

Wow! 4 posts into a thread and the complaints roll in. There were more than 12 cattle if you paid much attention. Over all it was fun to see. More so watching kids enjoy it, but next time maybe the organizers can check with some of you to make sure it meets your standards. Stay classy Folsom.

Does anyone know what was wrapped on the bulls heads? quite a few of them had some type of harness wrapped around their horns.
