It looks like the end of the line for Icing on the Cupcake. http://www.icingonthecupcake.com/

I hate to see them go. Maybe the cupcake fad was just that.

They made some great ones, though.

Sad to see anyone go out of business, but anyone with a head for business knew it was just a fad.

Maybe there could be a business called "The Fad Store".  One year cupcakes, the next year ???

I think the next thing was supposed to be miniature pies, kind of like the Walkabout pies they sell at Apple Hill or, for example, tequila-lime pie shooters.  I don't think it ever took off.

I am glad they were able to stay open as long as they did. They used Groupon deals and we used them a few times.

There are at least two more cupcake places still open here in Folsom. Hope at least one of them can stay in

business.

We went there for special occasions. Loved the fact that what they advertise as buttercream frosting was actually made out of butter and not Crisco like so many other places. Too bad they couldn't make it.

Cupcakes were a fad!!!!!!  Who knew?  Seriously a store based on cupcakes!  As an old retailer, that is a prescription for inevitable failure.

According to the Sac Business Journal, they haven't decided if they are really closing.

The attorney handling bankruptcy proceedings for Icing on the Cupcake says the local chain isn’t closing, despite a message on its Facebook page that suggests otherwise.

“They’re not entirely sure they’re going to close,” said attorney Matthew Eason of Sacramento’s Eason & Tambornini. “It’s not a foregone conclusion.”

When our town has three or more businesses selling the same thing, they might not all make it. That's competition.

Try Sassy Sweets on Sutter Street. It blows all the other places out of the water.

But on the other hand I hear Dunkin Donuts is expanding in northern CA.
