Just got a junk mail flyer for a public auction of assets seized from law violators and "others."
Mar 8th @ the Folsom Community Center. Is this new? Anyone ever been before?
Looks like mostly jewelry, watches, and expensive handbags...lol.

I did get the flyer too. Here is some of the information from it.
It is being run by Henson Auctions, licensed & bonded with the State of California.
Preview: 11:00 AM with Auction at 11:30 AM
It doesn't say anything about cost and they say that they validate parking.
Public Auction
Seized assets from law violators and others.
Items bought from seized assets auctions will go up for bid with other merchandise which includes the majority of items.
Highlights includes:
19ct G.I.A Alexandrite Ring, Hermes Birkin Bag, 10ct Diamond Tennis Bracelet, 3ct. Diamond Solitare Ring, etc.
TERMS: Cash, Check, Visa, Mastercard, AMEX.
Please note the following:
15% buyers premium plus sales tax will be added to hammer price.
They didn't say anything about cost to get in but they did mention Valet Parking which I am sure they
will charge for.
That's most of it.

Paid parking at the community center in Folsom? Can they do that?
I think they have in the past.

That's a public space, why would they charge for parking? Seems odd.
I like auctions but this one sound like it's going to mostly be jewelry and over priced women's desiger handbags.
Wonder if there will be any good deals found with the 15% fee and parking costs?

I am going to try and find out if they really are going to charge for parking.
I know that if you have someone parks your car for you (Valet Parking) I am
sure they can charge for that.

Seems a little goofy. No advertising found online. At least 3 different websites for companies called Henson Auctions (one of which uses an AOL email address).
The statement that "Items bought from seized assets auctions will go up for bid with other merchandise which includes the majority of items" is a bit confusing.
It makes it seem as though they have purchased seized assets from other auctions and are selling them along with other stuff that was not seized and makes up the bulk of the items for bid.
Just doesn't seem right.

Steve, I agree 100%. Did you receive a flyer in the mail? I did...

The State of California has no requirement for licensing of auctions/auctioneers (unless its for real property). It does require a $20,000.00 bond. I didn't find a bond in the name of any Henson/Hensons/Henson Auctions on the California Secretary of State's website. Additionally, I couldn't find a business license issued to Henson by the County of Los Angeles (which licenses for unincorporated areas, or the City of Palmdale (for Palmdale city limits) The website, www.HensonAuctions.us, shows various jewelry, art, artifacts, etc. Nor did I find a corporation or LLC/LLP registered with the California Secretary of State for Henson/Henson Auctions
If you go to AuctionZip, you'll find Henson Auctions out of Palmdale, CA 93550 479-899-4344. (This area code is in Arkansas, where the family patriarch, Col. C. J. Henson went to auction school, but has since passed and his son Roy now operates the auctions.) There are multiple "auction finder" websites that let you enter a zip/city to find local auctions. I tried 3 different auction finder websites and found nothing in Folsom for any date in the next several months.
As for paid parking at the community center, I believe they only allow non-profit organizations to charge for parking (Lions Club, Rotary Club, etc.) for community events such as the rodeo.
As far a "seized properties", this is always a very vague term; it could mean the item(s) were purchased from the estate of a deceased, purchased at another auction and resold here, well, you get my drift. Both the federal and California governments operate their own auctions for sale of surplus/seized property.
Fed's auction information is at www.usa.gov/shopping/auctions/surplus.shtml
California's auction in formation is at www.dgs.ca.gov/ofam/aspx
Didn't want to rain on this parade, but forewarned is forearmed. Still might be interesting to see what they have.
