Hi everyone, Prairie Oaks has a easy solution for the High School parking. Make it a gated community with traffic and pedestrian gates to slow access off of Grover to Stewart street, Also put one in just before the elementry School. If the city will not help pick up the trash, cig butts, ect ect, or communicate to the High School of some of the problems created by student parking and have the school oversee the students after school but they go and say well it off school property so its not our issue. Once a home owner says something the next night the house or street gets Toilet papered and maybe worse.

So, then Home Owners should pick up the power and keep their rights to quality of life. Organize and hopefully come together to create a gated community so we can keep our own peace.

Besides for the high school parking issue, there is another strong reason to make Prairie Oaks as gated community - the affordable housing. There will be a lot affordable housing to be built around Prairie Oaks, like next to the high school along Iron Point and more to be built behind Safeway...........

Not to squash the subject, but has anyone looked into the costs for converting a public street into a private one? Once the streets are private you're responsible for street/sidewalk maintenance, lighting, etc. All those costs (in the form of HOA reserves) are added to your monthly HOA dues. Also, I don't know how many associations govern Prairie Oaks but the "gated" lots would likely need their own governance structure, CC&Rs, etc.

It's not a small investment for a problem that will likely be significantly lessened with Vista del Lago open in Fall 2007.

Not in a million years...
"Sometimes on purpose and sometimes by accident, teachers' unions have a long history of working against the interests of children in the name of job security for adults. And Democrats in particular have a history of facilitating this obstructionism in exchange for campaign donations and votes." . . .Amanda Ripley re "Waiting for Superman" movie.

Of course most will pay more than you did for their house so they can't all be bad. By affordable do you mean "inclusionary"?

Why not simply lobby the City to make the affected streets no parking weekdays between 6:00 am and 3:00 pm (or whatever hours work to prevent student parking)? They can put signs up and then ticket violators.

There was an effort to do that very thing a while back, but there wasn't enough neighborhood support for it and it died. Many people run home businesses or have visitors, or just have a need to park a vehicle out front and didn't want the hassle.

No way do we want a gated community at Prairie Oaks.

Please, I simply have addressed issues that need to be fixed, I am not sure if you saw the POLICE take a few kids away after school the other day but is was interesting. Just saying no is great, please add some thought present a idea, solution, like lets have a party and pick up the trash everyday after school lets out. Apparently their cars are too filled with trash already they need to leave more behind. thumbsupsmileyanim.gif boohoo.gif specool.gif pumpkin.gif

You brought the subject up to start with. No one is going to want a gated community here so why don't you come up with something else?

Don't ask me to. I am busy enough doing other things so this is your project.

If you (and everyone else who lives here) want to live in a gated community, why don't you buy a house in a gated community?? For those of us who don't want the hassle of logging in and out through a gate (not to mention friends, home business contacts, etc. coming and going), we would prefer to keep it the way it is. HOA fees and rules are already bad enough without adding this to the list.
