My first thought is 'heck yeah he deserves it!' He knocked his girlfriend unconscious then casually dragged her out of the elevator and down the hall to their room. No excuses ever for that.

The question is, why does he get fired for it? Why are sports celebrities treated differently than say, music or movie stars?

Chris Brown beats the hell out of Rhianna and he sells more records.

Sean Connery states that it's okay to hit women if they deserve it. He is a most beloved and knighted star.

Sean Penn, Mike Tyson, Alec Baldwin and too many more entertainers to mention have done horrific things to others, and we can't wait until their next song drops or their next movie comes out.

For sports stars, we want them out of a job. Why the difference?

It's not just with violence, either. Rock stars on drugs? No problem. Football player Josh Gordon caught with THC in his blood in off-season? Suspended for the entire season.

Our priorities are skewed and screwed.

FYI, I am in agreement that Ray Rice should be suspended, for the entire season. Too many kids and adults look up to our pro athletes and they have a responsibility to live as leaders.

It's not okay to punch a woman in the face, whether you are a football player or a rock star.

Why are so forgiving to some and not to others?

I say he got what he deserves. I think there is also a 49er player that might deserve the same thing.

If this happened at Lockheed, Intel,  Oracle or some other large company, you can bet the person

would be fired.

No woman deserves this. PERIOD...

Odd how at first the NFL gave him a 2 game suspension but this was "before they saw the video." Yeah right. A multi billion dollar industry and nobody saw the video until some hack at TMZ got a hold of it. I call BS. Rice pretty much told everyone what he did anyways and somehow seeing the video made it more real?

Goodell should be canned as he basically tried to sweep this one away and Rice should be in jail. Oh and his girlfriend (who still married him after all this!) now says it's a horrible thing to relive. Is she just now just seeing the NFL paycheck gravy train come to a complete stop?

I think that might be coming from some PR agency's talking points. Some male analyst on ESPN said the exact same thing last night during the post-Monday Night show.

Let's just hope she doesn't actually ever relive that same thing again.

He deserves whatever the LEGAL consequences are of his actions, although a suspension would be appropriate. One year should do it.

I can guarantee that many of you have worked with felons, addicts and instigators of violence. Most of those situations stay private, it is only because this happened to a public figure that it becomes a media frenzy. Taking away a person's way to make a living should only be done through the courts, not by pressure from the media. That said, I'm not shedding any tears for whatever happens to him.

Thrown out of football? It's only a matter of time before his suspension is lifted.

The violence is completely unacceptable. However- I think the right to fire someone for something that did not happen while at work is wrong.

I should add though, that back in hey day- I quit going to A's games because of Jose Canseco's off-field activities.

Didn't NFL Commissioner Roger Goddell come out and say he didn't get it right with his initial 2 game slap on the wrist suspension of Ray Rice, so he issued a new policy that all first offense domestic violence convictions would result in a 6 game ban and a second offense would be a lifetime ban? Wasn't this Ray Rice's first offense? What changed to go from a 6 game ban to an indefinite suspension? Did they really need the video to understand how violent Ray Rice was that night?

In the end Ravens got it right by releasing Rice, but what a circus and jury is still out on Goddell and NFL....

This is the same team that allowed Ray Lewis to act like the fool he is after being involved in a murder. Ray Lewis, Ray Rice, Ray Mc Donald, Ray Ray Carruth. What's up with all the Rays?

I tend to agree, unless what they did hurts your business. If people were to protest, turn in their tickets, or otherwise cause the business to suffer, firing is appropriate.

Glad to see the NFL is holding the line on this one.  Too bad they drop the ball on many other cases.

Do football contracts have morality clauses? If they don't, they should.

I know they have 'conduct unbecoming' type clauses.
