How long has Eric been around? I thought he was one of the newer bloods.
I want to see Miklos & Starsky gone.
I would rather be Backpacking

Eric & Jeff have both served 2 terms.

Jeff will have the advantage of incumbancy going for him. Its my sense he doesn't have the passionate supporters like Kerri or Steve, although some of Steve's support are anti-Kerri people.

With Eric not running that may cause some to reconsider. I suspect Michael Gordon will run and I wouldn't be surprised to see Steve M supporting an additional candidate.

Eric did a good job on the Council and is a good person, so I am sorry to see him leave.

You flatter me.

Not a chance of that happening.

Eric is a good guy. I wish him the best.

I think we'll see a few folks toss their hats into the ring.

I am sorry to see Mayor King go. I thank him for his service and for being the only other council member besides Kerri who wasn't too busy to respond to emails from a resident. Even if his reponse was in opposition to my own opinion, he never came across as patronizing or arrogant.

This will probably free up a LOT of time, which I hope he is able to enjoy with his family.

I agree with Bill Z. I'd like to see Miklos and Starsky gone.

I would definitely vote for Steve though! He cares about other things besides developers.

Robert, I think you are right that Michael Gordon will run again. Won't he be another yes man to Steve M. though, if he wins.

You going to run??

Jim Karnis, I think you are still on this forum. You ran before, will you be running this time?

Its probably unfair for me characterize Michael Gordon, so I'll pass. I supect Steve M will be supporting Michael Gordon, like he has.

I've been thinking about running ever since the city made that deal with Aerojet giving away 2600 AF of water. IMHO, there needs to be a voice on the council who can offer a different perspective regarding development issues. We as citizens aren't getting that balance.

This brings up another issue with having the City Council appoint a Mayor - since Mayor King is not seeking re-election, he will not be serving out his full mayoral term!

How do we go about getting this on the ballot? Why does a city the size of Folsom not choose our mayor??????

Barb, they are only voted in as mayor by the members of the city council for a one year period, if I am not mistaken. I think they vote every year between themselves but not sure.

The process is spelled out in our charter. The 5 elected Council members elect Mayor and Vice Mayor. Generally this happens during the first meeting in December right after the winning candidates are sworn in.

The mayor position isn't really a paid position similiar to all council seats. They all get a stipend but it isn't worth what they go through. The mayor gets slightly more, but I don't know if anybody would be willing to serve 4 years as mayor giving up all the time they do, away from family and business for basically nothing. This would be a huge committment for anyone to make.

I don't know if any of the current council would be willing to serve 4 years as Mayor?

In theory as long as you are a council member you have the opportunity to serve as Mayor. Its my sense that the council is willing to share the role with everyone as long as all council members are willing to follow some sort of protocol and not play games. Its NOT about agreeing with everyone. If your colleagues sense you are playing games its my hunch they won't support you for mayor.

Its Ok for people to disagree on issues.
