What's going on with drivers in Folsom?  In the last few months, a couple pedestrians have been killed and today a bicyclist killed on Folsom streets.  Are Folsom drivers speeding, careless, drunk, or just stupid?  Or are Folsom drivers taking a note from the folks in Washington where obeying laws just doesn't matter any more?

Where's law enforcement?  Get out the radar guns!  Start writing tickets!  Get these drivers under control!

I'm 100% convinced it's primarily distracted driving.  There have always been speeders, intoxicated drivers, etc., but what is now so prolific is how smartphones have affected the focus and attention of what was otherwise a decent driver.  I commuted on a MC for over 10 years, and have seen a drastic change in just the last 2-3 years.  I'd estimate I see specific signs of distracted driving in about one in every 4-5 cars. Sometimes it's subtle, and for a moment, but more and more it's just blatant.  Sometimes distracted drivers move extremely slow, like 10 under the speed limit (super common in Folsom lately), stopping unnecessarily at intersections with yield signs and acceleration lanes, jerky steering inputs, drifting into bike lanes.... repeatedly, sitting at green lights, just to name a few DAILY observations.  I feel l sometimes need to move a bit faster to stay out of their way, which in the past has gotten me a ticket, but sometimes that's the cost of staying safe.  The worst of the worst I refuse to pass, which is difficult when they're the ones going under the limit.  If I believe they're intoxicated I call FPD if possible, but it's not always practical in every situation.

It's the aging of our population.

Most old folks shouldn't be driving any more... for any number of reasons but reaction time is a big one... and eyesight.... and strength... and not caring about dying.

Agree with both of you.. also, defensive driving has never been so important due to all the idiots (and illegals) out there behind the wheel.

I see a lot of younger people out there on their cell phones, not stopping at stop signs, speeding and just terrible driving habits.

I am 81 and I for one am very careful when I get out there. There are a lot of crazy drivers here in Folsom, men & women. Also they

have all these bike paths and trails but yet we see if people on bikes not stopping at stop signs. You wonder why they get hit??

People walking across the streets, not at crosswalks, etc.

Be careful out there folks.

I've come to realize that Asian women aren't bad drivers as much as they are ultra cautious which creates opportunities for accidents around them.

Example from the other day when I'm driving down a 2 lane road near a long strip mall with several driveways in and out of the parking lot. Driving along around 35mph, the car in front of me driven by an Asian woman suddenly stops in the middle of the road...to let someone leaving the parking lot ahead of them. The other car wasn't pulling out into the road, they were patiently waiting their turn.

I, and everyone behind me slams on the brakes to keep from hitting the person in front of them.

One could say the woman was being polite, I guarantee everyone behind me would say she's an idiot.

Disagree, it's the younger and middle aged generation that is too damn distracted with their phones or in too much of a hurry to get to their kids soccer match.

Both of the fatalities this week were solo accidents.

Probably alcohol involved...  What was the other one Steve...?  I am not aware of that one.  Chris

One was on East Natoma near Harvest Loop, across from the Parkway. The other on East Bidwell and Oak Ave Pkwy.

According to rumors at Vista, the one on East Natoma is suspected to be a suicide.
