I thought I'd share this. Pearl's rental home is apparently overs sinking ground, with the foundation and walls cracking and has to move asap. Here's her message:

FOLSOM SHARE and Help!

If you don't know me already, my name is Pearl Wood and now I'm desperately and urgently in need of your help. Can you help me find a place to live?

It must be in Folsom, pet friendly, with room to store kayaks, and under $1300 a month.

The home I am renting is cracking right now, as we speak.

I am a single mom of an 10year old daughter who is on the autism spectrum. She has lost a lot and had severe challenges and after much struggle finally has a good IEP for Middle school in Folsom. Moving out of Folsom would be devastating in more ways than one.

I am also an Iraq OIF&OEF, injured in Iraq disabled veteran with severe PTSD living on a fixed budget through the VA. I cannot pay over $1300 a month, unfortunately there is no wiggle room.

As a result of my injury I have a rescue dog that helps with my PTSD and have 3 older cats who live with me too.

I kayak and have a kayaking club for vets and others who use kayaking as a therapy outlet to help themselves.

I am the commander of the Folsom American Legion Post 362, I am also the junior vice of the VFW Folsom and Post 6604 and I promise that I'll be the best renter you'll ever have.

Can you please help me find a safe place in this wonderful town to live?

big discussion of why she is moving over on Folsom Chat.  The ground under part of the foundation of her current rental is caving in, causing structural issues in the house.

What area of Folsom is this occurring?

This sounds like the same person on a thread back in May of 2016 that was looking for a rental.  Is she having to move yet again?  I really hope she finds something.

its on Montrose Drive.  Active subsidence and settling of the foundation and house.  I guess its going to be on Channel 13 at 10:05 pm, on the news.

Thanks.  I'll watch for it.  Channel 10 also did a story.  Do other homes have to worry or is it only happening to one?

Chris here on the forum has a geology background.  Any idea what may be going on?

It looks localized to the one house, but the cracks opening up extend from the house far into the backyard.

I don't think the idea of expansive soil could be it if it's limited to one house.  The neighborhood would have experienced this long before now.  This isn't the first wet winter and hot summer it has gone through.

I wonder if that house had a large tree in the back yard in the past.  Would it be possible that it could have been a large decayed root that extended under part of the house that finally gave way because of the wet winter and then hot weather drying out the soil???

A scarier thought would be that a pocket of gas from the recent PG&E incident gathered under the property and just now found its way out.  I don't think that is likely since she saw the cracks open beneath her and didn't smell a strong odor.

I hope the house is truly safe so she doesn't have to relocate.

PG&E has already been out to check and they saw no problems, but told her to monitor it.
