It looks like the old fire station on Prairie City Rd is finally going to be redeveloped into an auto repair shop.

Asbestos removal?

I wondered about that, as well. I assume the plan includes removal. I wouldn't be surprised if the City is doing something to cover any extra cost associated with that cleanup through direct payment of the cleanup or reduced fees.  Unless it is essentially covered by selling the property as-is at a lower price.

I thought the issue with that place was mold.

Here's an old discussion on it from over 10 years ago. I believe it was not only the presence of asbestos, but also mold from water penetration.

I'm guessing that will be remedied if it hasn't already.

I am glad they are finally doing something with that corner. I also hope the area doesn't turn into an EyeSore.

The problem, as I remember, was Mold.

That looks kind of cool.  Thanks for sharing SacKen.  Anything is better than watching it continue to deteriorate.

I don't think the city owns the property any longer.  I remember noticing when the landscaping was no longer being maintained I asked and was told it had sold.  The issue was with roof leaks and mold.

I just wonder if the same residents that didn't want a car wash there because of the noise will complain.

The place is so rotted and neglected it seems it would be too costly to renovate and move in. The place should be bulldozed.

If they want it to look like the photo, I would think they would take

it down and build new.

I've seen the moldiest, funkiest, nastiest homes stripped down, cleaned up and made to look brand new. It's much cheaper than building from the ground up.

How is it that one location in Folsom the epicenter of asbestos and mold? Shabby construction can always be corrected - or is the place built on some ancient Indian burial grounds or something? I never understood why those problems couldn't have been remedied back when and the station made functional.  I feel my tax dollars were wasted by inept decision makers.

I wonder how they will handle access to and from the road.  The location isn't really easy to get into and get out of.   You can only get in either via northbound Prairie City or eastbound Blue Ravine.  And you don't have a lot of options for leaving.

It reminds me of the location of the old Lyons/Sizzler/Chinese Buffet restaurant on the corner of East Bidwell and Blue Ravine - it was difficult to head back to northbound East Bidwell or westbound Blue Ravine.  I wonder if road access played a part in their demise.  At least with an urgent care there, if you gotta go see an urgent care place, you gotta go.

If I remember the history correctly, this was built by a developer as part of their donation to the city for building lots of homes.

Ah that explains the shoddy construction and multiple problems. Developer makes millions, donates worthless lot and bldg to city, seems to be the way developers like to roll these days. It's amazing that nobody bothered to make the developer fulfill his promise and fix it so it was usable.

I probably should not keep bringing up accountability and responsibility (to the tax payers), it's not a very well liked subject it seems.

I saw the doors up for the first time in a long time and it looks like there's activity and landscaping cleanup going on.  This corner has looked sad for quite a long time.  It will be nice to see it useful again.  I hope it looks like the depiction SacKen posted.
