While I'm sure there is a need for this product, I think knittychick has a great solution. I've never put stuff on the top of my car, but if I do, I hope I remember this trick.We have a garage door opener and we throw the control in the backseat if we have something on the roof of the car. That way we can't open the garage door and drive in without thinking.

I've down it twice. Once with a bike on the roof and once with the Christmas tree. 
Life is pretty funny folks, you just gotta laugh. I'll look into that produt for sure.

This reminds me...............
When I moved to California I drove a rental truck cross-country. At one of my stops along the way I crushed the roof of the truck as I began to park under an overhang in front of a motel office. I ducked and everything and the roof of the truck still wasn't low enough!
(In all fairness to me, the overhang clearance wasn't posted so I wasn't held responsible for the damages.)

Now if they can just invent something that will taze drivers who refuse to use a turn signal. I was almost hit the other day in Natoma Station by a White-vaned soccer mom who turned left with NO signal who then proceeded to flip ME off and use language I haven't heard since my Navy days. I can read lips. "Flunk ewe Brass Dole" is what she said, I think.......
