Thanks JMB83, I'd love to check that out. Where is Peninsula CG?

If anyone here would like to take a free tour of what's out there on the dry lakebed, feel free to join my group, Folsom Dry Lake Explorers. It's on meetup.com, and I will keep doing these tours until the lake comes back. There are three different areas so far that we go. By the way, I will show you exactly where the town of Mormon Island really was -still far under water.I hope to see you out there. http://www.meetup.co...Lake-Explorers/

I'd be interested in joining your group. At least that way I will know what I'm looking at.

I signed up. Is it too late to join the 11/7 walk Mark? I have some other friends who may want to join also.

Marc, I have a friend who wants to know if they can tag along without signing up for the meetup group.

Caligirz, No not too late. Sign up for anythi.g right up until 15 minutes before the event. Yes, your friend can tag along without signing up. You can "plus 1" in your RSVP if they are coming with you. Bring as many as you like. Mark C

Thanks JMB83, I'd love to check that out. Where is Peninsula CG?

You can get to the Peninsula CG ( Camp Ground) by DRIVING up Salmon Falls Rd - which seems to turn into Coloma Rd (49) stay to the left- and then turn left on Rattlesnake BAR Roadl (not to be confused with Rattlesnake Rd off of Folsom Auburn RD)  and take that down to Peninsula CG.  I have not traveled this but am looking at the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area ( SRA) map that you can obtain from any open SRA gate. -  It is a very good map showing many of the trails around Folsom Lake.  I am planning to use this on Thursday (hopefully) to see what is up.  Have to see what we can of the lowest in 20 years lake levels and Jmb83's picture intrigue me...

Off Topic - will be trying Mt Tallac on Sunday with my 84 year old walking partner if the weather permits....

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

Some friends paddled out to the peninsula today and posted these pix:

I'm going to paddle out there just to answer the burning question: Is the drain plug in?

If there is no high ground nearby that hole, I would say that's most likely a well. Thank you for posting such interesting pics!

Found this wreck today. Appears as if it was a high-speed crash with breakup. It appears to be a red, white and blue "Miller" hydro, or possibly a smaller tahiti type speedboat. It's emerging below the end of Mooney Ridge, near the 5% boat ramp. Anyone know the story on it? Looks too new for the '67 races.

I walked the dog on the Red Bank side today. I haven't gone that direction in a while.  Was kinda bummed that an old survey marker I spotted in January 2014 is no longer there   :(.  I remember tugging on it last year and it wasn't going anywhere. Obviously someone really wanted it.

Survey marker from 1949 (photo from Jan. '14):

The huge quartz(?) " B O + " rock is still there though  :).... But BO still hasn't found love yet.

The lake dropped almost a foot since yesterday. The wrecked Miller drag boat "LeBoat" I photographed yesterday looks much different today:

Just posted "Paddling the Peninsula", in Folsom Dry Lake Explorers. This includes the area above Mormon Island. If you have a kayak or stand-up board and want to do about ten miles this friday morning, feel free to join via the link above. This is only one step short of truly "Getting to Mormon Island". You will be only 75-100 feet away, and mostly dry.

This shipwreck was poking out a little on Halloween. Almost fully dry docked now!

Nice pic! I don't think I've seen that one. Whereabouts is it?
