Rose, don't give him much thought.....   He's bought the liberal farm, lock, stock, and barrel......   You know, those few ones as they get older who do not see the light and keep towing the liberal, nonsense, progressive line........   I just get a kick out of the folks who are still dyed in the wool liberals and are in their 70's.........!   I would have thought they figured it out by then.   Sometimes logic does not stick in a few I guess......   Oh well, at least they are entertaining in their "liberal logic".   And another thing I noticed, is how unhappy and bitter they are.....?  Spiteful and arrogant too...!  Maybe when I am in my 70's I might understand...?  Until then, I just think they are nuts and missed the "logic train" out of fanatic liberalism.....   Oh, and p.s.   One thing I noticed is that many of them are on the government teat in retirement and they don't want to see the very generous gravy train end....  Tio Vinny, I am guessing that is you..........?    Chris

So, Canada never has imposed any tariffs on the US?

 

Trump asked why either side even needed any tariffs at all.  And I agree with that idea.

But for some reason, that idea never set well with other countries.

The question of Canadian Tariffs is slightly complicated, but in essence, it's not a rip-off of the US.

Their overall tariff is a quite reasonable 3.1%.

 

Unfortunately, Trump focused on one special provision when import exceed normal levels, what they call "surplus."

That's where the higher levels kick in.

Yes and no. Yes, Canada has high milk tariffs beyond the allowed quotas, with an average duty of 218.5 percent on dairy. But on most other products, the country is roughly in line, with a trade-weighted average of 3.1 percent overall, WTO data show. “Trump’s use of 270% to besmirch Canada’s overall trade policies is disingenuous to be polite about it,” Derek Holt, an economist at Scotiabank, said in a research note.

 

“Better judgment would question whether an entire trading relationship needs to be jeopardized in order to appeal to dairy farmers in Wisconsin.”
