Haha, now that's rich. I swim 2 miles 3x a week, I bet you'd sink like a rock!

Once again you spew opinions and never back it up except with crass remarks. it's really quite sad how rude you are.

So because you swim you think that entitles you to be a bitter hack writer? When do you ever add anything of positive note to this forum?

The military I was in.......way back when......we all got up at 6am and ran a minimum of 4 miles.  Actually, we felt pretty lucky when our Company Commander let us off with an 'easy' 4 miler.  Most of us policed what we ate.  We called each other out when one would start to sham out on the rest of us.  We had to be able to count on each other no matter what the circumstances, so we were all rather fit individuals.  I'd say each and every one of us was in top physical condition.

A company has anywhere from 100-140 guys.  All different body types.  But each of us was in shape.  Ages 18-mid 40s.  White.  Black.  Asian.  You name it.  What's my point?  You get out of it what you put into it.  Diet is somewhere around 70% of your workout.  Somewhere.  Look it up.  So don't tell me genetics or body types or color of your skin is what holds a person back. Plain and simple it is personal choices that makes us who we are. We're all capable, it's just that most fall short. Don't hate the ones that succeed. Dang.

Mike, I think the original point of the post was about not hating those that don't stay super fit.  Women, in general, have a harder time than men staying lean.  Women who have had children probably would have a hard time finding the time to run 4 miles a day.  But good on you!  Have you kept it up?  My hat is off to you!

That's not what I'm saying, nor what those who were offended by it were saying.

We're saying that there are lots of reasons why one might not look like Ms. Kang. Reasons, not excuses.

Before and after photos, an explanation of her background, or 'if I can do it, you can too' are much better messages than, 'what's YOUR excuse?'

There are people who make good personal choices, eat right, and exercise daily, and they will never look like that. They need to know that that's okay. They don't have to be held to her standard. Good health and physical fitness does not equate to 'fitness model'.

I look at her picture as not a "look like me" but rather we all have excuses for not doing something we want to do and it's a visual reminder that we can overcome our excuses and succeed. I don't feel this is just body related. I personally feel it is empowering. But that's just one person's take.

Funny - After we joined the gym, my wife dropped her baby weight faster than I did.  Er, I'm still working on mine.

What's my excuse?  I'm big boned....  Ok, I love sweets and eat too much junk.

It really is all about excuses, but I guess they could be called "reasons" too.

We are all full of excuses, I'll be the first to admit I am.

I am too busy getting ready for work to exercise in the morning, I'm too tired at night to work out in the evening.  I don't work out because I have many excuses, or reasons, for not getting exercise. I never get around to it because it's easier to use excuses.

I always hear that big cheesy pizza or monster double decker burger calling my name, so I gotta go eat 'em, that's my excuse for not eating better.

It's not because I'm genetically incapable.  It's just because I'm full of excuses or reasons not to bother getting in better shape.

Seeing that lady's picture of her with her kids and hearing the story is inspirational to me - I really should eat better and work out too!  I was blown away that so many people got upset at her and claiming it wasn't because they were jealous, just that they don't believe her story... really it's just more excuses.

Have I kept up with THAT? Dang, I sure wish I could have. 25 years later......maybe if I still had the same knees and back that I did as a spry 18 year old I might have been able. I think the original idea behind this whole post is I don't think anybody was 'fat-shamed'. The bigger picture should be about personal accountability and squaring yourself away. I know...I know...it takes a village to raise a child, but geez people, accept your responsibilities and do your own dirty laundry. No one else wants to.

What's your excuse?

Does anyone feel less "shamed" if it is presented by someone who isn't threatening to your fragile self image?
