Personally, I would vote for someone who didn't do any of those things, based purely on his or her platform and motivation for running.

 

I think most people would. I'm saying that in order to get support, to get noticed, you have to get out there.

I won't vote for any of the  three incumbents and  will cast my  vote(s) for newcomers. If we can unseat just one and then in 2 years Ernie Sheldon retires and whoa, I  just thought of it, even  if we unseat one of the big  three, who's to say they won't return in two years when Ernie's seat is open.  Yikes!!!  the nightmare

Afternoon all! 

 

I haven't yet officially announced it yet as the nomination period isn't until July but I WILL be running against the career council members in 2014.

 

We had a fantastic out come last election with 9,700 votes! Even with the Chamber spending darn near $20,000 for Starsky's campaign. I've been silently putting together a solid team/ plan of action behind me to hit twice as hard this go around. Anyone who wants to help is absolutely welcome.

Just checked out Roger's website. Now, it is my understanding that political campaign contributions are NOT tax deductible, but I am not tax expert and may be mistaken. Anyone have the inside scoop?

I am running for Folsom City Council 2014! I need YOUR HELP! What better way to contribute to the campaign than having a great time with us at FLB Sports Bar.

Last election the Chamber of Commerce spent $20,000 to keep the incumbent Jeff Starsky in office, yet we still got almost 10,000 votes! This time were going all out! Change can be made with your help!!

Come mingle with me and my many of my supporters August 20th from 6pm to 9pm. Tickets are limited and run $100 per person or $150 per couple! This includes drinks, food and FUN! (This is a tax write off!!) RSVP on Facebook!

The problem is................... the number of people who live in Folsom but who do not frequent this forum is huge, and those folks are likely not aware of issues in the city or problems with the city council. Things appear to be fine so they vote for the same people over and over again thinking things have been hunky dory. Newbies who run not only have to state their positions and visions, but they have to make it clear what the issues are and why we need change.

 

When these newbies submit statements for the voter pamphlets and when they post information on their websites, in print advertisements, and in print collateral, they have to make these issues clear. Merely stating what candidates do for a living, how long they've lived in town, marital status, and how many children they have isn't going to win new votes (I've seen candidates for various elected offices do this before). There has to be meat and potatoes in everything voters see.

 

In addition, newbies need to take full advantage of this site as well as Facebook and other social media, encouraging others to "share" in order to get their names and visions out.

Good catch Aztransplant! This has been fixed. The site is being organized right now and will include my opinion on my topics. 

 

Deb, you're absolutely correct; most residents aren't involved or aware with Folsom's current issues. This is indeed a major problem. However the election process in Folsom is all about money and a good ol' boy network. 

 

I can tell you first hand by how it went down in the last election that the incumbents will and have always had an upper hand over any challengers; mainly due to the money. With backings from the Chambers BIZPAC and developer relationships, most challengers can’t compete. You might have the best ideas in the world but if its drowned by 500 campaign signs, mailers, TV ads and unlimited stage opportunities it won't make a difference you’ll still lose. 

 

This is what needs to change; we need term limits to stop the redundancy and open up the flow of ideas. Miklos, Howell and Starsky need to be termed out and retired.

I have never voted for anyone because I saw a sign or a lot of signs....but that's me; I realize a lot of people don't do their homework, though. Newbies need to be out there making face-to-face contact....wherever they can to get their names out... and do some thinking outside the box to create cost-efficient lawn signs.

Are we saying that the citizens are uninformed? Uninterested? That the problems aren't big enough? After all, if pot holes, unemployment, decaying infrastructure or crime were the issues, they'd be obvious and visible.

 

I hope more folks do come aboard and discuss the issues as they see them.

Yes, it's my opinion that a lot of voters are not informed about the kinds of issues people bring forward and discuss here. Pretend you are not a MyFolsomite and that you're not involved with the movers and shakers in town. How would you know?

Most people I speak to in Folsom are very aware of the problems associated with our city.  I think it is the quality of the new contenders that is the problem.  Most suddenly appear (or reappear) only at election time when it is really too late.  This city has many opportunities to volunteer, many good organizations to join and lots committees and commissions to sit on.  The more you do the more involved you become and the more people you meet.  It is tangible proof that you love this city, are passionate about it's future all the time, not just at election time. I understand Steve's reasons for not standing but he is a prime example of someone who is passionate about this town and who could easily get elected.  Strange really as so often he has wonderfully opposing views to so many posters.
