One of my daughters did Walnut Wood. It is primarily independent study, and great for kids who are disciplined enough to get it done. She graduated at 16. For others, it seems to be the last step before dropping out, as one of her friends did.

My son did Walnut Wood and my daughter is doing Options Charter. Both only needed 2 classes for their senior year (some observation about our educational system and lack of time actually educating would be pertinent, but I'll abstain).  I'd say either is fine as long as your kid is well suited for that type of learning. For kids that can self-motivate, it is great. They can do a whole semester's class in about 4 weeks. Again, that is a statement on our system. Both of my kids were bored out of their minds in HS. My son is just about finished with his GE at FLC and daughter has 12 units this fall there as well (like Steve's daughter, she will be graduating hs at 16).

 

If your kids have self-discipline, I say go for it. You will miss out on the big graduation ceremony, so if that is your thing, be prepared for that. There is also a segment of self-study kids that are there because they were kicked out of school. There is little interaction with them though.
