If you get the b&n membership which is $25-$30 but many might have that already if they shop there.

Well, we finally popped in today after trying to get in to see Fences at the Palladio (only front row seats available, so we skipped it and will try again another day). First thing my husband said was, "It looks like a warehouse," to which I replied, "I don't like it." Although the heat was on, the atmosphere seemed cold. I suppose they are going for a "modern" vibe. We don't drink alcohol and I can't see myself paying six bucks for a glass of orange juice. We'll probably stick with the B&N near Sunrise Mall when we want to hang out with some books and a cup of joe - pretty much the same distance and not as antiseptic feeling.

The Folsom Public Library reading room with the comfy chairs and fireplace is a nice choice when alone (I still carry the old-school belief that libraries are for quiet, not for chatting); no food or drink allowed in there though.

A great addition to Folsom.
Beautifull bookstore, nice ambiance, good food, good coffee.

My daughter and I ate at the cafe last week. The kale salad was terrific. I'm happy to have Barnes and Noble in town but I hope Face in a Book in the El Dorado Hills town center can still make it. That's a great little book store.

I agree, Face in a Book is a great little store.

I've driven by the new B&N (went by last Wed & the mall was packed), and I could see empty shelves from the road. It seemed like all the activity was in the dining area. I was surprised the area seemed to be a 1/3 to 1/2 of the store.

So we finally went in. We were there before the opening and walked by a few times during the holidays but went in tonite. I remembered someone (Caligirlz) saying the dining area took up so much of the store. Looks can be deceiving from the outside I suppose and the dining area is right there as you walk in BUT..I am going to say it is less than 1/4 and closer to an 1/8th of the total space. I'll say maybe 3 / 16ths...maybe..lol. Not trying to pick on Caligirlz either. I just remembered a comment and went in thinking half the store which I thought was wierd.
What it is is a rectangular store. Not deep like Roseville or Citrus Heights so it's a bit deceiving. Think like Winco as compared to Raleys or Safeway. So it's bigger than it appears imo. There were a lot of books with only one book of a title there. I chalked that up to holiday depletion.
It was crowded for a weeknight. I felt a bit crowded back to back at times in some areas and at times you could not even be back to back. You had to stalk that spot and wait lol. So I found that annoying but it was crowded.
The dining area was dead. Just a couple of people for the amount that were in the store. The time could have been the reason, around 6PM but I had a feeling that wasn't it. Maybe it was prices? I am just guessing. My feeling is it would probably be busier during the day.
The wife loved it and bought two books. We made wishes and threw coins in the fountain. Yes I can be romantic. I counted about $5 in dimes alone plus pennies in there so naturally I wondered if some people might go for it. It's really a pretty store. I am glad we have it.
Btw would be interested in other guesses about the dining space. That's what it seemed to me. I'm just having a little fun with Caligirlz and did not know it was her who made that comment that stuck in my head. And it is deceiving too from the outside looking in.

Stopped by today and thought the place was nice.    Appeared to be welcoming and a great place to sit down with a book and relax.

I do think it's the prices. Their chicken sandwich is $20. Burger $16. A glass of wine $11 to $14. Beer $6. Lunch for 2 can run $50 to $70 with tip. Seems high for a bookstore cafe.

I agree.  the cafe is the most inviting part of the store, but the prices are nuts.

Glad you made it in and LOVED it. It's great to have variety of stores in town, as some like this, and some like that.

I also heard that they laid off a bunch of staff post holidays, so that may explain the "dead" ness. I have heard the food is good.

I'm not a fan of paying full price or even B&N discounted rates, as most of the discounted books are not specifically what I am looking for. I did finally visit Colton Books. Now that was fun! Still even a little pricey, but I'm more motivated to choose book carefully, and collect them for return/credit towards future purchases.

I think my favorite bookstore ever was a combo bookstore & cafe. So, i may have to mousy in there one of these days.

Recently visited the new store in Folsom.  Agree it does seem sterile looking and the restaurant didn't seem to have much business.  I didn't go during eating hours though.  Cafe seemed to have a decent number of people sitting there.  Hope they survive, by restructuring to gain more business, as needed.  Was sad to see bookstores like Barnes and Noble and Borders close shop, so am glad to see at least Barnes and Nobles stores still around here and there, and this new one in Folsom.  I guess there are those who miss the smaller bookstores more.  In any case, to me it's not so much about having a place to buy books.. I liked the atmosphere and the fact that you could go there and read magazines, books, do some work on your laptop in the café.. I've seen it more as a social place for people to meet up, as well as a place to promote reading.  I find the traditional décor and layout (like that at the Sunrise location, more appealing and warm, plus the music was classical most of the time, which I find more conducive to reading and writing than contemporary music.

Online stores like Amazon and barnesandnoble.com are more convenient and cheaper.. at least the former is.. but if it were a matter of paying a couple of dollars more for a book locally to support a local business where you may get some benefit out of spending some time vs getting it on amazon, I'd probably consider just getting the book at the store, although I doubt that alone can save a store from closing.

By the way, there are quite a lot of bathrooms in this store!

My wife and I finally popped in a few weeks ago and found the sheer lack of actual books to be strange. It's like a B & N "lite" especially compared to Birdcage. You have to wonder who decides what books to offer/display with literally millions to choose from. There were entire subjects completely missing due to size and how they decided to use it.
We agreed that the cafe was way overpriced....more a place for Folsomites to see and be seen than a place for a meal.
Just our opinion....I ended up ordering a book I saw from Amazon for about half the price.

Its funny how some consider Palladio to be a "high end" shopping mall. While that may have been the intention when it was built that is hardly the case. A "high end" mall has to have at least one "high end" anchor store which Palladio has none of. Nordstrom Rack is a far cry from a high end retailer. More like Ross on steroids.

I went for the first time last week, and loved it.  I wouldn't eat there (too pricey), but I liked the size of the book sections by subject.  Browsed, didn't buy, but will eventually buy books there, as spontaneous purchases that I can dive into immediately.  Don't know if they'll survive, but I liked my visit there.  As an Open Mic guy, I can see that being a great Open Mic venue on Tuesday nights, during "movie night".  Maybe I'll suggest that to them.  There used to be an Open Mic at Borders.
