The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department is warning residents of scam phone calls purporting to be from a Sheriff's Department employee.

Residents have reported receiving calls from someone who claims to be a sheriff’s employee informing victims that they have a warrant and must make a payment to avoid arrest. The caller provides instructions on how to make the payment, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release.

“We would like to advise our residents that our Warrants Bureau will not call demanding payment to clear a warrant and to be cautious regarding any phone call from an unknown source demanding monetary payment,” the news release says.

The Sheriff’s Department advises anyone who receives this or other scam phone calls to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission via the commission’s website,

A VETERAN Whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount "up to and including their life". That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -Author unknown-
