This parody is hilarious...

Unfortunately for her bad judgement, she's leaving UCLA as a result.

Hilarious! As for her leaving UCLA, I don't understand why really. The University wasn't going to punish her. As for her and her family being harassed and threatened, while that's uncalled for, there's going to be more of the same if she continues in the realm of politics. If I stopped after the first time I and my family was harassed/threatened, I wouldn't have had the amazing political experiences I've had since I was 16.

Yea, it is her choice to leave. Guess she really can't handle the heat & the attention after all. I wouldn't be surprised if she finds a way to make a profit off the situation, like a book!

I like the catchy tune, and the singer, I think Jimmy Wong, is pretty funny. I was watching some of his other stuff on u-tube.

The band Green Day wrote a song about her, it's called American Idiot.

She got what she deserved, sometimes it doesn't pay to shoot your mouth off and be offensive.

I pity the fool who would buy a book by that boob. He would be dumber? the person buying it or the person who wrote it?

According to a report on Sacbee.com:

....it seems the original video was not intended to be a one-time hit.

"My daughter wants to start a blog," wrote Wallace's dad on his Facebook page.

John Wallace, a Sacramento-area retail developer, posted on Friday at 11:17 a.m.: "She's asking for domain suggestions for 'Asians on their cellphones in the library!' She's shooting videos as I write."

John Wallace also posted March 3 that his daughter was cast to be in the audience of MTV's "Jersey Shore" reunion show.
Father and daughter did not respond to numerous attempts by The Bee to seek comment.

There's even one of those weird animated news stories about it.

To be honest, I'm often annoyed by many folks who rudely ramble on their cell phones about inconsequential rubbish where etiquette generally considers it inappropriate. I'm especially annoyed when folks do this where signs are CLEARLY posted requesting people not to use their cell phones (this happens unusually often).

And to be fair, if people are originating calls in a library, they really shouldn't -- they should remove themselves first. Or at least remove themselves if a connection is made. And if one is receiving a call, one should try to remove oneself at the earliest convenience. At the very least, whisper.

Not withstanding these mannerisms, this is a bit cold hearted (assumption that this is true -- after all, how could she know if she doesn't speak the language? This is incidental but I actually suspect that the callers were not native Japanese.):

"... tsunami devastated Japan on Friday, Alexandra Wallace, 20, posted a three-minute video on YouTube in which she mocked Asian languages and expressed her annoyance with Asian students talking loudly in the library on their cell phones, including those calling Japan to check on relatives after the deadly tsunami."

I'm certainly not excusing her idiotic reaction. However, generally speaking, sometimes people should just stay off the frickin phone.

Cell phone usage was only part of her rant. First she complained about the 'hordes of Asians' UCLA allows on campus, then said, "All the Asians bring their moms, brothers, sisters, grandmas and their grandpas and their cousins and everyone that they know that they brought along from Asia with them to do their laundry, buy their groceries and cook their food for the week..."

A rant about cell phones usage in the library is one thing, ranting about peoples' culture, language and lifestyle is something best said in private, or not at all.

She closes with "..even if you're not Asian, you really shouldn't be on your cell phone in the library."

Ok. She's a big idiot. And I still get annoyed when people rudely use cell phones where they shouldn't. :)

I totally agree with you. I rarely take cell calls in public, especially if I'm around other people. I either let it go to voice mail, or tell the caller I'm busy & I will call them back. I'd do the same if I had visitors at my home. I think it's incredibly rude to go on with a long conversation, regardless of content, when other people are in close proximity....unless it is an emergency. But most of these calls aren't.

I do think it's kinda comical to see someone wildly gesturing & having an animated conversation with what appears to be themselves, then you see the earpiece and realize they're on the phone. But I don't want to listen to the details of their conversation. I do understand why doing this may be necessary in the business world...just be careful of your location....speaking from experience....

The only thing I HAVEN'T seen addressed from this entire story is whether or not the cell phone offenders plan to keep it down in the library in future.

That parody is hilarious. One of the best ways to deal with idiots is through humor. And if people do change their cell phone use behavior, it will be because the behavior is being addressed, not the ethnicity of the people involved.
I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

Yes, it is pretty funny. If you go to youtube, you can find dance remixes of her rant.

As for the cell phone problem, I wonder how bad it really is. If we walk into that library on a daily basis, are we really likely to find hordes of ill-mannered Asians talking loudly on cell phones? Will we find anyone else on a cell phone?

On a visit to the Folsom library a few months back, I noticed how library manners seem to have changed. There were quite a few people talking in their 'outside voices', including moms to their kids, and kids to each other. I didn't notice any cell phone usage, but then again, I didn't see any Asians.

My trips to the library are brief -- I make my selections online before going to the library.

Most of my encounters with obnoxious cell phone callers are (not all inclusive, just top of mind given recent experiences) in restaurants, at the store (grocery, Macy's, whatever) and coffee shops. One obnoxious lady was so bad that, in a coffee shop where most patrons were reading or just quietly enjoying their cup o' joe, she proceeds to make a video conference call on her laptop that persisted for 45 minutes! It wasn't even some big biz deal meeting, it was "oh, look at me; how cool is this. Oh, sorry, I took a bite of my pastry, I forgot that you could see me, blah blah blah."

Some people just shouldn't be allowed to talk in public.
