I called in our order and went to pick it up. A gal at the register was talking with another girl when I arrived and continued to talk to her. A guy came up front with a bag and set it on the counter in front of her. She just kept talking. Then another person came to the front and asked who the bag on the counter was for. The gal at the counter then took a look and said, "Oh, it's for that guy over there." I don't think she was the brightest bulb in the box.
Had the other person not asked the counter gal who the bag on the counter was for, I wonder how long it would have set there before she noticed it.
My family ate the food and it was good, but when I looked at the receipt, I found I had been over charged.
The price for the Orange Chicken was $1.20 more than the price listed on the menu!
So, I'd go again, but the next time I'm checking to see if they over charge me before I leave the restaurant!
And, if I have to wait until the gal at the counter finishes talking, before giving me my order, I'm not going back.
Restaurant managers, hire good help or your business will fail.

We had lunch to go at the office yesterday. Prices were accurate. Food was outstanding. Can't get enough of that salt and pepper fish.

Have you ever eaten anything _besides_ the s&p fish?

Yes, the general chicken, an off menu dish of green beans with beef, veggie chow mein, a tofu dish, hot and sour soup, a couple of others. They're all good, but that fish is awesome.
It is chunks of fish, fried (can't take the Louisiana out of me), and then tossed with sliced chili's and a little bit of onion and salt. I think that's about it. No sauce. Crispy and flaky (like my kids).

No, but most chinese places can make you something like that.
I asked if they had beef and asparagus. The owner told me that he didn't like the way the asparagus looked when he went to the market that morning, so he bought some fresh green beans instead. It was awesome.
If it had a name it might be called beef and green beans with black bean sauce.

of work must have gone into the wall. I nodded but couldn't help noticing that a couple of places on the wall looked as those something had bashed into it. That kinda stinks--I'm sure the owners paid handsomely for that painting.
So we sat down looked at our menu. The guy was right there to ask us about drinks. He came back with them and asked us if we were ready to order. I felt rushed and didn't like it. I mean--the place was practically empty--surely no one was waiting for our table!!
So--my son ordered the broccoli and beef platter. A got a small taste of it before he polished off the plate. It was very good. The sauce is unique to that restaurant I think. The vegetagles were steamed just right.
So I ordered one of my personal favorites ---I love it 'cause every restaurant makes it slightly different.
The Mushu Pork. Oh-their sauce is devine. Heavenly. Tasty. I want more!!!
So--my daughter ordered a platter called the birds nest. Very different. The menu described it as chicken, beef and prawn with vegetables on crispy noodles. What came out was prawn, immitation (?) crab meat, and vegetables. Ok-it didn't taste bad--it didn't taste horrible. Actually the prawn tasted really good it had been soaked in garlic sauce or something before being cooked. But....it wasn't described well in the menu.
Another thing I disliked is that they only served a fork. No spoon or knife. I like having a spoon for dropping ice cubes in the kids hot tea (lord, they love tea!!). And I can't get over the lack of a knife at the table. I wanted every drop of my mushu--but finger pushing rice onto a fork is gross. Plus, they didn't give us the option of chinese sticks. I like eating with them so that was a disapointment too.
So, we are sitting at the table eating and a guy comes up to pay. He starts arguing with the blond lady about his bill. She handles it well--it was obvious the guy ordered more than he thought--but I kinda got the feeling he was being obnoxious--not pleasant. So someone walks in to pick up a meal they ordered. The cook had run out of one of the things the person had ordered. So the woman tells the guy she will refund him. I can see he is aggravated, but he stays quiet, accepts his order and his change and leaves. I doubt the restaurant will see him again.
Common sense--cook needs to let the phone person who is taking orders know that certain items are not available.
So, I'm thinking you know--the restaurant is awfully small. So small that everyone hears everything and I don't really want to hear conversations by the register. They should move it closer to the door.
Frankly-this restaurant needs a management group to come in and clean up their operating skills. The woman had been schooling someone while we were there; but it seemed half-hearted. For both of them. It made me feel uneasy--like the guy resented her presence.
Next time--I'll order to go.

When we were there, there was only one other table occupied. The service took FOREVER and it irritated me because the guy was just standing up in the front talking and completely ignoring us. He'd look at us, I'd raise my hand and he'd look away.
Also, I hate the separate menu thing. I want to try stuff I don't know. Give me the authentic food, please! If it's changes day-to-day because of what's fresh and available, put it somewhere on a white board so I can see what are my options.

I agree I think that would be a good change if they had the register near the door maybe in a booth behind a curtain kind of like Bidwell Street Bistro's entrance.

It is a small place, but there's not much they can do about that.
As for the knife, spoon, chopstick thing, ask and ye shall receive. I think sometimes they assume that non-asians don't want chopsticks. Each time I've been there the service has been good. One night I had to flag someone down to take my order, but that's about it.
As for the timing of order taking, I think the guy may have been trying to be prompt and attentive rather than rushing a customer out of a nearly empty restaurant.
In any case, if I'm not ready, I tell them to give me a few minutes.
I'd rather have them come right away than have to wonder if they eve know I'm there.
I'd give it a 9 on decor, a 9.5 on food, and an 8 on service. Worth returning for.

As for the off-menu stuff. It isn't a secret menu, it's just the typical Chinese restaurant.
Most American restaurants say, 'no substitutions, please' where as most Chinese joints you can ask for stuff different ways.
Don't see steamed fish on the menu? Askf or it, they'll steam one up for you.
Chinese vegetables? Ask for ong choi, choi sum, chinese eggplant, chines broccoli.
Want pork with snow peas? No problem. If they've got it, they'll cook it up for you.
Ask what they have.
I hate fake crab.
