Who do you like?

Sean Payton? Hue Jackson? Mike Shanahan? Mike Holmgren? Someone else?

Payton or Jackson would be fine, although they need *players* right now. No matter who they hire, they're in a 2-3 year rebuild project. If it happens sooner that's fine, but doubtful. And they're in a tough division.

Too bad one of the 49er legends can't step up and then hire quality assistant coaches...they're not very old...and the fans would love it.

Tired of the coaching re-tread merry-go-round.

Doesn't matter as long as Trent Baalke is still in the picture.  Even if they get Payton or Jackson, it will still be a disaster and end badly... assuming a good coach that other teams also want was crazy enough to accept since the Niner office right now looks like the Kings in the last few inept years of the Maloof era.  I'd rather get a good GM then let him find the next coach so that the coach is fully on-board and doesn't start his tenure hesitant or restrained because of Baalke.  Then there might be a successful coach that can take a couple years to build a program and groom a successful team.  I don't think that is possible under the current conditions.

And not Harbaugh success where the stats said "success" but actually watching a game I often wondered "how" because the play calling, coaching actions, and team dynamics always seemed awkward and unsophisticated, like a tower of cards a couple stories too tall just waiting for a gentle breeze to bring about its demise.
